Hattiesburg – Students, faculty, staff and alumni of the University of Southern Mississippi are invited to participate in the 2006 Southern Miss Comcast Golf Classic, set for Saturday, Oct. 7 in Hattiesburg.Hosted by the Division of Student Affairs, the two-person scramble will take place at the Canbrake Golf Club and proceeds will help support both leadership training and professional development in Student Affairs as well as student scholarship programs across the university.Three division champions will advance to the national championships set for Nov. 12 at the Badlands Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev. The cost is $125 per player and includes cart, green fees, practice range balls, lunch, food coupons, gift bag, two raffle tickets, prizes for closest to the hole, longest drive, chipping and putting contests. Patrons and sponsors receive complimentary player slots. Tournament winners will be determined by low gross scores. The practice range opens at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 12:45 p.m. First through fourth place winners in each of the three divisions (student/student, faculty/staff, alumni/community) will be announced immediately following the event. The top 50 percent scores based on gross scores compose the Championship flight of each division (to be determined immediately following play). The Championship flight in each division is composed of golfers playing to advance to the national tournament and for their designated scholarship program.No fewer than eight student scholarship programs will benefit from the proceeds of the golf event.
