Someone gave me a bunch of bulbs at the end of Oct. I didn't get them planted. What do I need to do? I know it's too cold to plant them. Is there any way to save them for the spring? I have no idea what to do.

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks, Hawk. The person who gave them to me will wonder why I don't have daylilies coming up next year, so I appreciate your advice. I love the flowers but just didn't get them planted. My own dumb fault. They are suppose to be the burgandy color. I don't have any of those.

Blondie, Hawk gave good advice, but if you want to go ahead and plant them I would suggest placing the bulbs in a small bucket of warm water inside your house or garage (where they won't feeze)...let them hydrate a few hours then plant them immediately. Be sure and plant in a well drained soil in a sunny location. Mark the area where you plant them so you will know where they are.

In the spring scatter some compost and manure around them, along with any good bulb fertilizer, water well and mulch good...you will probably have blooms during the late spring or summer. After the blooms fade, pick the old blooms off to keep blooms coming for awhile.

Daylilies are very forgiving. That's why I like them. They just bloom their little hearts out and don't ask for much in return. I love the man's house at Arlington Loop and 35th (?) with all the daylilies. What a labor of love. It helped a lot after the storm to see that yard come back.
