i just went out to get something to eat at lunch, and driving down Hardy Street i saw a Chain Electric p/u truck with a Dossett Pontiac "paper tag" displayed where you would PAY to have your car tag on your vehicle! i now, some of u would say, "well, they probably just bought it and haven't had time to replace the tag with the metal tag you BUY". i really don't believe that is the case BECAUSE:

1) it has the Chain Electric logo PAINTED on the driver's side door (not a magnetic sign u can just "slap" on and pull off);

2) it had the truck number -- 352 -- PAINTED on the driver's side front panel where you could see it passing by the truck.

can some1 tell me how this could possibly be legit -- other than they JUST bought the truck and got it all painted w/in the 3-7 (??) days you have when you buy a vehicle before you have to have a tag???

any1 know what the actual laws are concerning BUYING and displaying a proper tag?

We actually do the lettering for the Chain trucks.
And, we do actually, do sometimes get them lettered before they get the official tag, sometimes before they've even been driven.

The same thing happens to our company cars... everythings ready before they hit the street, then they get the tag for it. Even though it is seldom it does happen. :)

Sometimes tags have to be shipped too. Most personalized and some specialty tags do, and I'm not sure how their trucks are classified. I drove my new truck for close to a month with no tag displayed because the state had to make it and ship it to me. I just had a paper receipt and sticker the tax collector gave me until the tag came in.

The Chain trucks probably have a business tag on them and they probably have to be sent from Jackson.

If you're going to be mad about tags, be mad at the rental companies that think it's ok to not buy tags for them even though they use the same roads we do.

Or how about the dealers that use their dealer tags on privately driven cars which is illegal also.

i assumed that the tags were supposed to be used on demos that were owned by the dealership, not by an individual?

i also know that a tag that says "Used Dealer" is approx $2200!!

The dealer tags are for the cars that are currently for sale on the lot, not for the one's the dealers drive home every night.

My problem with tags is that they're supposed to be for ID purposes, but now they're so cluttered with different money making crap, I couldn't tell you a MS tag from a Mexican tag.

You're right. It can be especially challenging to call in a tag on these vehicles. It seems like a new one is out ecah day, and it can be very distracting, and even a safety issue as an officer, to have to focus on a little picture to try to figure out what kind of tag it is instead of what the driver is doing if you have to stop somebody in a hurry.

Are you talking about the conservation tags for wildlife? I have a hummingbird one and I just love it! Now, if you are talking about some of the stickers people are placing over the Magnolia for neighborhoods, schools and the like - I believe that is against the law. If I'm not mistaken, you are not suppose to deface your tag. Whatever happened to placing these stickers on the back window?

Why not put that cute little Hummingbird on your back window? You could buy it from the Wildlife Conservation folks for that nice, warm, fuzzy feeling.
If you don't draw a line, Noway will have the ACLU helping him get a B(o)(o)B tag, next. :smt119

I like my little cat and dog, but I suppose I could put them on my back window...along with my red and blue sticker. :smt118

Will the B(o)(o)b tag help women get a b(o)(o)b job? In that case - go for it Noway! :) I could use all the help I can get!

No problem.
How wide is your windshield, and what color would you like?

The dealer tags are for the cars that are currently for sale on the lot, not for the one's the dealers drive home every night.

so is he supposed to buy 200-250 tags for ever car on the lot?

I pay MORE than enuf for the plain ole vanilla flavored tag with the magnolia on it..I refuse to pay extra for the fancy ones...the state gets enuf of my hard earned dollars as it is!

I Hear The Drug Dealers Use The Special Tags So That The County Is Not Across The Bottom And They Fit In Better In Different Areas. While Dealer Tags Are Not For Cars Being Driven Home It Would Be Hard To Tag A Car That Has Not Been Titled Yet.

thanks to u all for ur replies. now, maybe Chain DOES have a legit reason for having the paper tag... we'll see. i'm gonna keep my eyes open :smt119 and see if i notice this truck driving down the road in a month or so. :) i guess i just get REALLY frustrated, especially when i truly try to abide by the rules and others don't, and they get by with it! i just have to keep telling myself that "they will pay for that at some point" -- Karma and stuff, u know!!

thanks again MHers! :smt038

Dealer tags are assigned to the dealer, not a particular car on his lot.
