I like the color... but will the back have some kind of heading that says "Top 5 MH blah blah whatevers"?

noway
12-15-2006, 07:07 PM
The MyHattieburg.com Top 5 Slogans will go across the top.

The background color is the color of the shirts. Blue demin color..

Should we leave the numbers on or off?

Should myhattiesburg.com be all small letters?

I'm not such a big fan of the font.

noway

After taking the numbers off hopefully each sentence will be one line..

If you have a better suggestion on font post the kind that they will understand and I will see how hard it is to change..

This is a trial run and we can go from there..

The shirts will be $10-$12 dollars and if you want one pm me your size or post it.. I want to order on mon or tue

Well, I really like one slogan or something like "Top 5 reasons to join MyHattiesburg.com".

My photoshop sucks, but this is something like I was thinking. Although the witness protection program was always my favorite, #5 works too. This would have to be dressed up by a real designer.

I think Hawkeye and SoMissTV get it. Simple and easily eye catching. The first proposed back has far too much text ... it won't be read.

--- begin suggestion ---

Front:

Starburst logo
myHattiesburg.com
(H is the only cap - text over right chest area)

Back:

I'm Informed ...
myHattiesburg.com
(reasonable font size ... readable but not overpowering)

--- end suggestion ---

I asked numerous times a month ago about this and no one said anything.. now everyone wants to make changes.. I will talk to the designer and see how hard it is to make MAJOR changes.. and I bet none of you will buy one anyway..

I know me & aaron asked what everyone thought so we deserved it.. but GOM

It shouldn't be hard to make changes at this point, nothing has been made (at least, I hope not).

Is the purpose of this shirt to advertise the site? I just thought it was a 'been there, done that, got the t-shirt' kinda deal. It's great if some advertisment comes from it, but I don't see a whole lot of people being driven to a website because of a t-shirt (unless it's a wet t-shirt stretched across some awesome boobies).

I like the original one. Ofcourse I'm of the mindset that the busier the shirt the more it gets noticed. One of my favorite t-shirts of all time was my freshman dorm shirt that featured a top 10 list on the back.

Put me down for an x-large and xx-large of whatever design yall get.

hawk im gonna go ahead and have to disagree with you on the whole advertising thing

yeah youre right... a billboard, a newspaper ad, the first 30 frames of a television ad...yeah you have to grab attention and that can be done through a multitude of ways....and no one demographic responds like another and the way they respond changes pretty much day to day

how many times have you seen someones shirt that had a lot of text or it was really busy...think the big johnson t shirts or the ones that list 100 days to get drunk or something like that...or maybe some sort of phrase

mh.com isnt a big company or corporation so it doesnt have to be branded...

i hate to use this word but this site gets its traffic and attention by word of mouth and a little bit of media exposure here and there...so this site is definitely where it is by a local 'viral' marketing... which viral marketing is nothing more than word of mouth in a digital way... that is done by establishment of dialogue.

i think it would be best served by having the 'list' which may not have the instant recognition as the 'billboard' idea would...but would cause people to say 'hey let me read that' and you take the time to stretch your shirt out flat so they can read it....at that point...the conversation takes place.

But...i do think you need to work on both the design and the actual copy that is the 'list'...be humorous, refer to big local stories... I am actually pretty good at this sort of stuff but while i am writing this...i got nothing.

I would be more than happy to take some time next week to hammer something out.

you are right hawk...what you are saying is marketing 101...

besides...i dont think your business enjoys the success it does because of your marketing....its enjoyed its success because you make damn good steaks and people say 'hey this guy makes damn good steaks' when they get into the 'where can i get the best damn steak' conversation

but good marketers know when to break those rules...and i think this is one of those times

my .02 from a dude who does marketing.

Hey, Aaron, do you think you could find a "chill pill" gift to add to Hubplaza. I looked but there isn't anything close - except Viagra - and I that wasn't what I was looking for. :)

Ha ha ha - for the guys, I have AL Bundy - NO MA'AM (National Origanization of Men Against Amazonian Masterhood) logo shirts with the MyHattiesburg.com domain name already on them. Clearance sell 1/2 price. 2 for 1. Get'em while they're hot. Get one free with $50 food purchase. Or $5 each, u pick up. Great Christmas gift to boost your husband or boyfriends ego. Makes them feel superior and in control (tho we know who rulz). A guranteed eye catcher. Buy more than you need as others will want one and you can charge them double, recouping your investment. 100% Cotton - Made in the USA. The XXL's make wonderful sleeping shirts for the gals. I, the Hawk, wear them all the time with pride. You too can impress friends, neighbors, girlfriends, wives. Show'em who's boss - get that ring out of your nose - don't be cowed by beautiful women - they respect a man with the balz to wear this shirt. Final offer, this sale may any at anytime. This offer void where prohibited.

is that plus tax title and fees, and all rebates assigned to dealer?

is it in conjunction with any other offers?

What's the stock number for when i come up there to buy a few?

lol

it all boils down to wether you want a bunch of walking billboards or if you want actual dialogue and discussion to take place between current members and people who have yet to join

if you want walking billboards then hawks idea will suffice

if you want actual discussions...then go with the original idea but develop it

fuzzis
12-17-2006, 08:29 PM
I really do hate to disagree with you Hawk, but those kinds of top 10 lists are a hallmark of t-shirts. T-shirts are a little different than other media because it's more of a personal thing. You're not stopping to look at a billboard, you're stopping to stare at someone's chest (or their back). If you're asking them what it's about, you're acknowledging that you've committed a social faux pas in actually staring at someone. The top-ten list gives the conversation starter to cover the slip.

It's kinda I think why we have both a front and a back of a t-shirt. On the front you can do the whole sizzle thing...and on the back, you can have the conversation starter.

Well Fuzz, it just depends. Want as many as possible to checkout your website or use it to troll for dates and flakes. :smt102 Disagree with me all you want but dat won't change de traffic number rulz of Advertizing 101.

Well...I suppose that's the crux of the argument. What is the purpose of the t-shirt? Who is it for? Is it for us? Or is it for someone else? Who's the audience and what's the purpose?

I'm pretty much with Hawkeye on this one. I have a lot of affinity T shirts for restaurants, organizations, projects, etc. and I'm always interested in which shirts folks stop me and ask about.

It's never the complex ones with a lot of text or complex graphics. It's always the simple eye-catching phrase or logo that attracts attention. For example, I have a shirt from the Purple Moose Saloon in Ocean City, Maryland.

The only thing on the entire shirt (front and back) is a 3" x 3" logo on the left front. The logo has purple stitching on a white shirt, cool looking moose head, the saloon name, and the city. I've had the shirt for several years and every time I wear it, several people (most I've never met before) stop to ask about the shirt and the place.

I have two Moon Pie T shirts. One is a NASCAR 50th Anniversary sponsorship shirt with an overly large Moon Pie logo on the front plus and lot of other NASCAR text and a very busy 50th Anniversary logo on the back. No one ever asks about it.

The other Moon Pie T has a very small Moon Pie logo on the left front plus a subtle graphic on the back of a little boy and a little girl with pigtails. The boy is holding a Moon Pie and the little girl is kissing him on the cheek. The only text is, "Come On, Just One Little Bite." I'm constantly stopped by folks wanting to ask about the shirt or thanking me for a good laugh.

My assumption is that the myHattiesburg T should be something folks will stop and ask you about. From my experience ... simple, clever, eye-catching is the key; not lots and lots of text.

It's pretty much the same as a highway billboard ... if you can't get the message by a simple glance ... the message is lost. Not to disagree with you experienced marketing types, but these comments are from an experienced consumer. :)

I agree with Wayward and (it pains me to say this) Hawkeye. The cluttered back reminds me of high school / college shirts, and I feel that this place is (slightly) more refined. Clean, concise, and clear should be the key to this shirt. If we're trying to set an intelligent and active image for the site, then it needs to reflect that.

My only real problem with the original design is that it doesn't follow a theme. Something like "Top 5 reasons to join MyHattiesburg.com" in a bigger font across the top, and then 5 reasons that are actually along those lines would be better. I just don't know about slapping 5 phrases up there that have nothing to do with each other. Nevertheless, noway is going to make a decision on this today I think.

Well, I'll buy one (XXL) regardless of Noways design. Just keep in mind that I'm still stuck with the last 100 shirts he designed and I paid for. :-D

To buy the t-shirts with a credit card, just click the link below, click the paypal button and enter your information. We do not keep your credit card information. Put a shipping address if you'd like it mailed. I will give the money to noway. If you did not pre-order a shirt, I think he has 3 or 4 larges left and one small.

The MyHattieburg.com Top 5 Slogans will go across the top.

The background color is the color of the shirts. Blue demin color..

Should we leave the numbers on or off?

Should myhattiesburg.com be all small letters?

i like the numbers on the list...
all small letters for myhattiesburg.com

i really like the shirt.........very nice:-D:clap:

No offense intended, I just hate it when we bring back threads from Years ago...I'm sure it's just me. I'll have read about two pages and think I'm losing my mind, cause I think to myself "I'm sure I've read this before, and I haven't heard from Hawk or Wayward in a long time." Then I look at the date, and begin kicking myself.

Anyway, as in the old argument, I still think it's a bit bunched up.

I think that Citygirl brought this thread up so that the newer members could see what we discussed about the first t-shirt. I am wanting another t-shirt for MH. So if you would like to put in an opinion go to the thread about New MH t-shirts.

Thanks.
