Debugger Virus. Has anyone ever heard of this *true* pain in the a$$?!?! Any suggestions on how to "fix" our computer?

So far, it has been successful in freezing the screen every ten minutes or so. I have to shut it off and re-start to finish what I was doing. And I keep getting this pop up saying DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close ... only problem is that I don't *think* I have a debugger ... is that different from virus protection and ad ware and such??

I've gone into safe mode and removed some stuff that shouldn't be there and cleared all histories ... temp folders, browsing history, that whole folder is cleared ... *but* ... when I log back in to come here asking for advice, it was like I hadn't even touched my comp. All passwords and such were still saved, after I *know* I deleted them ... ??? ... ??? ... ???? Can *anyone* help?!?! If my comp goes, our business goes to hell in a hand basket *fast* ... I can't afford a crash.

If you can't afford a crash, back up all important files now. Most likely, it's a file that's being loaded on startup. I'd go through Add/Remove in safe mode and remove anything that you don't need. You can run a virus check for free here (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/)

Do you have security software on your computer that's set to run a scan at least every week? You should!!

Do you have security software on your computer that's set to run a scan at least every week? You should!!

With all the downloads we do, (yeah, they're legal :) ) we have to run a scan, manually, at least twice a week. Which is *really* strange because all of the downloaded files goes to a folder that is scanned before it's even opened ... ??? ... We have Norton Corporate that's set to run once a week on top of the manual runs. And we also use Windows Defender and Search and Destroy, but I think that's only for ad ware, maybe?? And a Registry Mechanic, not even sure what that does ... :smt102 Is there a way that I can view the actual Event log and try to figure out where it originated from?? Not that it will help me get rid of it or anything ... I just want to know who's messing with my money ...

One more thing ... a little late, I know ... but Aaron ... do you think there's even the slightest chance mine would infect all of y'alls comps thourgh the forums ... *especially* the ones I shoot PMs to all the time?? If you do ... I'm going to sign out and not get back on til the issue is fixed ... Whatever *you* think is *best* for the group ... In the meantime , would you all *please* make me feel better by scanning your own comps?????? I adore you all :grouphug: and it would seriously hurt my feelings if I inadvertantly sent any of you a bug :( ... lol! unless you were dolemite of course :smt118 I'm *just* teasing ... I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

No, you won't be able to affect anyone here. You can get these viruses in three main ways. One, downloading and installing software from the internet. I almost always download from proven sites like download.com, sourceforge.net, or a corporate website. Two, security holes in your browser. Just keep your computer up-to-date. Three, opening attachments and pictures in email. I just don't do it.
