One wouldn't mind going to work every day with an employer like that.

Yep. Just roll out of bed and go to work in your pajamas. :smt038

I looked up the jobs and I don't have the skill sets for most of them or want to move to the ones that need what I could do. They are not all telecommuting jobs.

I am glad those people do a good job. I google the heck out of things.

Think I may have a chance. They only receive 3000 applications per day. :smt118

My company made that list last year. The people who work at headquarters have it pretty nice, but still nothing compared to Google.

if you are single with no family and want to work all your life and spend most of what you earn on outrageous housing costs, higher taxes, and urban sprawl then google is the place for you. if you make $40K here in Hattiesburg then you would need to make 200% more just to have a chance, a marginal chance of breaking even. most engineers there dont work 40 hours a week.. bank on it.

if you have a family and they are first in your life above anything else(including work), want to save and not throw money away on outrageous housing costs and want privacy without having to drive one hour on way to work then google is not the place for you even if you could get a job there.

more people are figuring out that dont want to work 50 or 60 hours a week because they want to do other things, stay healthy and just have a life outside of work. there is a reason why we have weekends. its to take a breather from work so we can refresh. its also a reason that people have burnout and productivity decreases. In google's case there are enough people that want to work for them that google is their life and that is why google provides things like laundromats, bringing your pets to work, 3 gourmet meals and swimming pools. if people just wanted to go home for lunch and promptly after 5 or 6 pm then what would the need be to offer all these ameneties?

I dont think I would ever leave work with all those perks!

There's no free lunch there. They make the perks available to make it easy for their people to stay productive and do LOOOONG weeks. And that really is the expectation. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt, but wouldn't want to do it again.

My son works for a Big Deal company on the west coast, and they do expect a great deal for their high salaries and good benefits. Fortunately he's able to work from home some days, that cuts down on the commuting, but it's true these companies don't provide an on-site laundromat just because they want to be nice.
