If Chief Bryant got rid of the part time firefighters at Petal I believe that was a good move. Now he should hire some full timers to take thier place. Full timers have a better knowledge of the city and the department. I know three of the men that were dismissed they are excellant firefighters. So for Carl Scott to question thier abilities shows his ingnorance of the abilities of these men. I also question his knowledge of the Petal Fire Dept. Most mayors see the Fire Service as a drain on the city budgets. A knowledgable mayor would know that a good fire service lowers fire insurance for home owners and business owners. That all translates into higher profits and more money for home owners to pay thier water bills. Business folks can hire more people or pay the one they have more money. You can pay for a better Fire Service or you can pay higher insurance. Which would you rather do? These are good firefighters that the city got rid of. If the Chief got rid of them to hire full timers great. But Mr Scott should not make disparaging remarks about good people. One last thing protect the workers of The City of Petal form a Civil Service Board. It has worked in Hattiesburg it can work in Petal.
