Tijuana cops lose guns, get slingshots

The Police Department has issued about 60 slingshots to officers in the violent border city of Tijuana, where soldiers confiscated police weapons two weeks ago on allegations of collusion with drug traffickers.

Municipal police spokesman Fernando Bojorquez said Monday that the slingshots, along with bags of ball bearings, were given to officers patrolling areas of the city visited by tourists.

I can't believe that/ That is unreal. How do you pass accuracy with a slingshot test? No holes in the paper. Hit cans or bottles?

GEEZ, we need to get Aaron to take this thread off...it is likely to give Chief Wynn ideas! ANOTHER way to protect the citizens of the Burg. The officers can hit the thugs and not permanently injury them...maybe it would help keep down law-suits! :)

I agree Maggie, this sounds like a Wynn idea.
But, A good slingshot CAN do permanent damage. A ball bearing (Buckshot is heavier & cheaper) can easily crack a skull at close range. I used to hunt rabbits & squirrels with one & they are quite effective.
Howerer, the idea of police trading in their guns for them is asinine.

Yeah, you are right about the damage that can be done... a neighborhood kid that I grew up with got hit in the mouth with a shot from a slingshot and he lost three of his front teeth from the incident...he also almost lost an eye. Needless to say all the kids got their slingshots taken up after that. I don't think the parents thought the kids would be that good of an aim with just a sling shot...

At twenty to thirty feet a .32 cal. pellet of 00 Buckshot will smash up a rabbits ribs pretty goog & if you keep in practice it's not a difficult shot.
A trick sling shoting squirrels, Put a dab of peanut butter on the tip of your shoe & go to a place where people feed squirrels. (be sure to miss your toes)
