Well, we all made it here in one piece. The flight wasn't too bad although the delay in Chicago to de-ice the plane was a bit unnerving. DC is such a cool city. We made a brief walk around this afternoon, past the White House, the National Mall, and a few other monumental areas. Downtown DC is buzzing with activity and it is pretty cool to be here. It is pretty cold with a projected high temperature of 33 tomorrow and we have seen a few snow flurries here and there. I will keep you guys updated as our trip progresses. We are meeting with Cochran and Pickering tomorrow. It should be interesting.

I am afraid it may be too late for that. We went to Union Station for supper tonight. If you have never been to DC, it should be on your list of "must do's". The history that surrounds this place is incredible.

My family and I have been up to visit. Unfortunately only got to stay for two days up there. There is so much to see and do you couldn't do it all even if you had a week. It is on our trip list to do before we die.

Sounds great, the last time I was in DC I was around 12 years old.
I'm looking forward to going back one day so my kids can enjoy it as I did.

One of my girlfriends and I have committed to a yearly vacation sans boys. Last year we did Memphis and New Orleans; this year we're planning on D.C.

We are planning on bringing the kids next summer. We are staying at a place called the Harrington Hotel. It is probably not the nicest in town but it is pretty interesting. Parts of the hotel are over 100 years old. It is located about 2 blocks from the White House and about 2 blocks from Metro Station. You can pretty much walk or take the subway to just about anywhere you would want to go from here. In fact, we caught the subway from the airport.

When we were there we actually parked in VA and rode the Metro into DC and walked to where we wanted to go. Their Metro subway system is pretty nice or at least was when I was there.

The last subway I rode was on the same trip when I was 12, these were in New York city....very nasty.
If you see ole W while you're strolling around the white house say hey for me. :)

Something about riding a train at about 80-90 MPH through a hole in the earth is just cool. Seriously the Metro system is kept pretty clean. You would hate to have all those Washington politicians riding on a dirty train wouldn't you?

You lucky bastard. One of my all-time dreams is to spend a month at the Smithonian Muesum.

Could you maybe grab a few bumper stickers and get me John McCains autograph? :)

Me too. You can spend a week in the Smithsonian and not see it all. Maybe next year. I'm retired. Why don't I do these things? I just let life pass me by. But who'd keep Ian? Fuzzis mentioned Memphis. I have a dear friend in Memphis I promised to visit next spring. She's to show me the real Memphis. I'll find an excuse not to go. Why? I ono. Odd I think.

Tully, glad you are enjoying Washington D.C. I went there for 2 weeks when I was 18 and stayed with a friend who is still working for the gov't.

I really enjoyed seeing the soldier guarding the tomb of the unknown soldier and the flame. I even winked and flirted with the soldier guarding it to see if I could get him to smile. Those soldiers are able to tune you out. :smt102

When I was there the subway was not built.

Enjoy your stay and leave the cold weather there, Tully.

Have a great time while you're there Tully. I was there for Sept. 11, you should go to the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, it's really very moving. After we went to the memorial we went to this really great Irish Pub, 'Hawk and Dove'. A Capitol Police Officer told us about it. We set there drinking for 'bout 6 hours doing our best to destroy that enemy cashe of beer. We were victorious, or at least that's how I remember it. God Bless America!

Hope that you are having a great time in a great city. We plan to visit DC again soon, been there many times but still havn't seen everything. I'll watch for an Airtran sale, leaving Gulfport / Biloxi, one stop in Atlanta,
(on at least one flight you don't even change planes) goes direct to
Reagan National. Hop on the Metro and you can go anyplace in the city.
If you are looking for a place to eat try Tom Sarris Orleans House it is right across from the Rosylen Metro station, it's one of the traditions when we visit DC. Have a safe and productive trip.

We met with Senator Cochran's staff today (he wasn't available to meet with us) and with Rep. Pickering. Both meetings were very positive and both commented that it appeared that we had really done our homework prior to meeting with them. My guess is that we will see positive results from these meetings in months to come.

Later in the day we spent a few minutes (not anywhere near enough) at the Museum of Natural History.

Tomorrow we meet with Rep. Taylor and Senator Lott and we are schedule for a tour of the Capitol between meetings. It should be a good day.

We are heading back to good old Mississippi today. Yesterday was filled with good meetings with Senator Lott and Rep. Taylor. Lott arranged a tour of the Capitol Building for us.

All in all I think that it was time well spent. I don't know the exact timing but I think that Petal will ultimately benefit from this effort.

The down side of the trip was that we caught glimpses of Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi yesterday. Talk about irony, Clinton's office is right next to Lott's office in the Russell Senate Office Building.

I am trying to get over to the National Archives today before we leave to get a glimpse of the Constitution and other documents. It's been a fun trip but I am ready to get my feet back on my home soil.
