Hello-

I am so happy I found this site o.O ! I've been looking for information and trying to learn more about Hattiesburg. This is great.

I recently moved to Hattiesburg and love it so far so wanted to say Hello and maybe get to know some people.

Originally from Alaska, I've lived all over the US. I am here now working for an IT/Network company. I love the weather here and plan to do a lot of gardening, as in Alaska it's difficult at best to grow roses or flowers.

I'm an avid gamer, computer geekess that I am. I play Wow and have been playing since it's start up. I've also played, DAoC, NWN, EQ, GW, BG, MW and a wide range of 1st person shooters, but like the MMRPG's much more than the shooter games. No, I'm not a kid being nearly 50 yrs. old now, it's been an occupational thing....

The reason for my search for local groups is that I've decided this year I am going to give up the stinky nasty cigarette habit. My computer room smells like an ashtray and my clothes stink. I want to seriously give it up. I've looked into going back to roller skating but at my age it's a dangerous thought!! lol So I've decided to make a game plan, write out what I can do to get over cravings and urges. I thought it would be nice to find someone who enjoys walking or bike riding on the trace as going alone I find uncomfortable and have taken to asking my neighbors if I can walk their dogs! Anything that keeps me from wanting a cigarette!
So, if anyone has any ideas or another resource for finding people that are looking for the same I would be grateful and most appreciative!

I'm still learning about driving in Hattiesburg, and where the local haunts and dining places are. I've read quite a few of your suggestions to others and check them out when I have time. You've all been wonderful at expressing opinions and suggestions. I think it's Great! I just wanted to say hello and see if I could find a group or club that does outdoor things or if I could find a walking buddie as it were.

Nice to meet you and warmest regards!!

Hello and welcome to My Hattiesburg, a great place to meet friends. I've spent a few summers on the Kennai Pennesula(sp), Cooper's Landing and down to Saldotna. Had a great time there. As some IGID said, we got folks from all walks of life, so when you've got a question, just ask, you'll get way more than you asked for.

Thank you all for the wonderful welcome. Alaska has some weird spellings for villages and tribes. But it is a very different place. Mt. McKinley better known to Alaskans as Denali, is really awesome anytime of year.

Being down here however, is far different than what I'd anticipated. Isn't it suppose to be HOT in the south? The past few weeks I've been freezing!! But then I am not accustomed to the humidity.

Anyway, nice to meet you all and I enjoy the gamers board thank you Aaron :)

Welcome to the site! My husband just recently got me addicted to WoW as well. I think he decided it would be easier to get me to play with him than for him to play less (which is what I would have liked). But now that's how we spend time together, crazy right? :smt118

LoneStargirl... LOL Yes, I think it's great when in a relationship you can both share the same interests, however, concerning WoW and having your S/O there with maybe not a good thing...o.O

At least from experience, both people not playing on the same server and never the same guild!! Everyone plays differently, and it just saves from the headaches of listening to the person sitting next to you telling you where to go and what to do much less constantly asking ..Why did you do that? What are you thinking?...As with Aaron, I'm competitive by nature and will take on whatever I think I can handle, it's just a game...so sometimes I die yippee skippee.... it's a game... not the end of the world :P BUT... if you both can play together like that More power to you hun!! I just know I can't... :)

Hi Bob,

Yes, it's almost eye popping that I've found so many Wow players here... it's Awesome! If you could join gamers too that would be sweet.... I've listed my server and lvl's... even though I've had to start over and am basically a newb again, I do have BC and can't wait to hit 58 so I can go to Strat.... Hope to see you and LSG on gamers :)

Hi Thyssa,
welcome from a fellow newcomer :-)
My husband has been pining for years for an assignment in Alaska, it must be beautiful. I, however, am not made for endless nights and subzero temperatures, although now I am also a bit wary of the saunalike conditions of Mississippi.
We have a miniature schnauzer; if you are still interested in walking other people's dogs in July let me know :-)) .
Good luck kicking the smoking habit. I know first-hand how difficult it can be at times but you can do it!

Hi, Thyssa! Welcome to the board and welcome to Hattiesburg. Hope you enjoy your stay there. I grew up there but haven't been back since graduating HS a few years, uh, eras, ago. Have they paved the roads there yet. All dirt when I left. Heh heh heh. Actually, Adeline was dirt. True.

Only Me,

Thank you!!! That wold be great and I look forward to it! I've been reading about the assault in the Green Leaf Trace the other day and now I'm concerned. Even with walking a dog, I'm not sure I feel so safe now. Anytime you'd like to get together for walking the dogs, I'm up to it.

Thanks for the support for the smoking thing. I made one whole day without a cigarette, but it's my gaming that's gonna be my downfall. I'm so into the habit of getting my snacks, water, pop and smokes around me and settling in for hours of play. I do smoke around my PC and have for years. I build and repair them so it's nothing for me to build a new one every few years. I'm going to have to find a way to be able to play without the smokes :( But I'm still working on it, I will quit...

I'm an ex-smoker too. I whipped it with mind over matter. Your brain believes everything you tell it. It cannot distinguish between true and false. Knowing that, I kept telling me I was a non-smoker. I acted like one and constantly reinforced it by telling myself that over and over, putting myself in situations (in my head) where someone was offering me a smoke and me telling them, "No thank you. I don't smoke." Worked for me. When the urge got strong, I'd take a walk, grab a magazine, anything to get busy doing anything. But if you're like me, you'll stay pretty busy just hiding the bodies along the way. HA!

LMAO... Dollfus46! that's so funny! I'm at the point where I indeed need to get off the computer chair and do something. Thanks so much for the encouragement!

My hometown is a small village called Seldovia. To date it's pop. is 225 with one Sourpuss...They have their own website as well. it's an island basically, the only way to get to it is by Boat (The Alaska State Ferry System) or Fly in. I used Homer Air.

For years Seldovia was indeed dirt roads but due to progress we now have the main street paved. and once a month the street sweeper comes over on the ferry from Homer and we get it cleaned!! WoooHOO!

Seldovia is know for the tribal cache's Blueberry Preserves and it's fishing. It's history is very colorful and if you get a chance you can visit:
http://www.seldovia.com/

I've lived outside now for over 10 years now, and have lived all over the U.S. I like this area as it reminds of back home. Friendly, quiet and laid back... however I realized it WAS true up until I hit 98 East or West at 4:45p.m..... then it's like Anchorage traffic :P But I still want to stay and plan to enjoy myself here for sometime :)

The Alcan is now paved hun! if you plan on driving it, it still takes about a week to get up to Alaska ( and that's pushing it), but there are now service stations along the way and diners too!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Thanks for the website to Saldovia. I am interested. Were you born there? Dad in the service? I find it interesting how people get where they are. Developed that interest tracing my family tree.

"Thanks for the website to Saldovia. I am interested. Were you born there? Dad in the service? I find it interesting how people get where they are. Developed that interest tracing my family tree."

I was not born there, my family went up when I was very young. I was raised there and call it home. My father took over Caravan Transfer after both my Uncles were killed commercial fishing. Uncle Ronny had the boat and Uncle Denny flew his plane to spot the fish. Within 3 months of each other we lost both men. So Mom and Dad went up and took over the business and we raised the kids, had a fairly large family for awhile :P

Me myself, I've always been the "explorer" gutsy one and I left home very young. Stayed in touch with family off and on but eventually came outside to see what was out here. By then I had substantial computer experience and have been in telecommunications and IT work for years. So my travel stems from places I've worked and what I've done. Was offered this job and couldn't wait to start. so I'm here to stay now :)

I've posted his pic and some info on the forum Military People, Thank you FOTNO for that thread!! I'll be sending him and his guys the stuff they can't get there and if you get a chance take a look at some of the pictures he sent me in the gallery from his last tour. He's a great kid and is in my prayers!
