Success, finally
Heaven knows what I have been doing....

Anyway, we are a military family of 4 on our way to Hattiesburg this summer. After two years in the ( frigid ( northeast, we are ready for a change. I am looking forward to participating and asking lots of questions :-)

If the Hattiesburg area is as friendly and welcoming as this forum, we will have a great time :-)

BTW, generally speaking, is Oak Grove or Petal a more family-friendly, safe place to live? For some reason we seem to have limited our search of new neighborhood to those two areas. Any "insider knowledge" is highly appreciated.

Can't say about Oak Grove but Petal is a nice place to live.

Hi onlyme. Welcome to MH! Oak Grove is not a bad place to live. Just depends on the area. Of course, that's anywhere you go...

Welcome, onlyme. :smt006

Oak Grove & Petal are both nice places to live and both have great school systems. As far as the cost of homes, you'll get more for your money in Petal vs Oak Grove.

Since we will only be in MS for two years, we would prefer to rent a house instead of buying. It does not look too good in the classifieds section though. Anybody here who has a 3-4 bedroom house leftover that he/she is willing to rent to us? :-))

Thanks for all the replies so far. Great forum :-)

onlyme ....Welcome to myh have a great time.

I live in Petal. The schools are great! If you can stand to buy you will probably do great in the resell. Homes here are going up in value greatly so you could stand to come out pretty well.
There is some areas you may or may not want to live. PM me and I would be glad to help you if I can.

just a test. I have been trying since yesterday to post a message but have been unsuccessful ( don't know why ). If this is a double posting I apologize.

Test Answer. This is a test. This is only a test. Hi Onlyme! Welcome to the MH board and welcome to the great state of Miss'sippi. If you're from the North, I'd sign up for the How to Speak Southern language course at USM so you can communicate with us. 'Cause you prolly won't be able to understand. I ono. Or you might get you some Jeff Foxworthy or Lewis Grizzard tapes and listen to them over and over again.

LOL
I am freezing my unspeakables off here in Rhode Island as we speak.
We lived in Kentucky and Tennesse and we did have some sveltering days there as well, although I am sure it was nothing compared to a "good" Mississippi day. I am certain that there are many other things that will make up for the saunalike conditions :-)

onlyme, it gets as hot in Kentucky and Tennessee as it does in Mississippi. The difference is that in Mississippi, it gets hot and stays hot for what seems like forever.

Keep talking and we'll get you to the magic number of posts, whatever it is! lol

I think Germany is north of Hattiesburg. Heck every place is north of Hattiesburg. My son had four years of German in College. He used to speak it wel. But I think he's lost it now from not using it.

Good morning,.
now that I have properly introduced myself and am ready to move on to other threads, I would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome.
I have been trying to find user guidelines for the forum, for example if it is customary to thank every single poster with the ty button. I'd hate to foul things up on my first day ( not that that never happened before.... )

jmb
02-13-2007, 09:15 AM
Onlyme, the closest thing you're going to find to user guidelines is the FAQ section (http://www.myhattiesburg.com/forums/faq.php). As to the thanks, that's entirely up to you. You thanked us all for the warm welcome, so it's not necessary to thank each one individually, but nobody's going to yell at you if you do. :)

Welcome to MH! Unfortunately I can't be much help when it comes to finding a nice area, I just moved here myself in January. But I will let you know that I found it pretty much impossible to find a nice house for rent that was also in an acceptable area. We ended up renting a townhome in an apt. complex. It's much nicer than any of the houses we looked at so I'm pleased. Good luck though, and if you need anything let us know! I know exactly how hard it is to look for a place to live when you're 100's of miles away!
