Just wondering... does Hattiesburg seem to be more of a Republican or Democratic area? Is this a stupid question, cause I know the South states are "Red" states.

Hattiesburg is a pretty even mix. The universities in town seem to even out the indigenous population.

Seller's link gives a good overview of the national election results. On a more local level, Hattiesburg has a democratic mayor, two democratic council members, and three republican city members. In addition, the house congressional representative for south Mississippi is a democrat. Republicans control the state Senate; democrats control the state House. It ends up being a pretty even mix here.

Ha-ha. You won't see one presidential pep rally or commercial here. In presidential elections, Mississippi is one of the reddest of the red states. Neither national party bothers to spend money here.

Aw man, those are so much fun! The best part of the election!! Haha. I went to a John Kerry rally in '04... you are all going to hate me now. Kerry wasn't there, but John Edwards was. It was so much fun, people were going crazy!! And Bon Jovi performed. It was in Muskegon, Michigan.

Hate to break it to you, but all the Republicans vote for the Democrat US Representative, Gene Taylor. It's a hard region to pin down.

It does make you wonder how a 'Mississippi Democrat' compares to, oh, say, a CA Democrat?

Light years difference. While there's a mix of labels, it's all still pretty conservative.

:) If you really like rallies - there is a possibility that the candidates will go to New Orleans (at least the Democrates). I went to 2 Clinton rallies in New Orleans and you are right - the electric charge to the audience is awesome. The respective parties and/or candidates may have a schedule of where they are going to be campaigning.

Come on, Amandah, admit it, the only reason you went was because you knew they'd be doing the Macarena dance! :smt118
