Pitchers and Catchers report to spring training camps in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Florida and Arizona today, with the rest of the squad reporting over the next few weeks. Baseball springs anew, and with it the sounds and smells of the ball park. The fresh cut grass, the hot dog guy. Nothing like one with mustard and kraut and an ice cold ‘Old Style’, in the friendly confines.

Who’s your team, and do you think you’ll be able to catch a game at the stadium this year? Don’t forget your minor leaguers.

That's enough to make a fuzz happy.

My team is the Royals. We suck. We've sucked for a really long time. *sigh* But they're still my boys.

I don't think I'll make it to a game at the stadium this year. I didn't make it last year. The closest I may get is Atlanta...if some of my friends there want to catch a game. That's one of the things that sucks about living here. At home, I used to get over to the Bay Area (a 3 hour drive...for me :-D) for games every couple of weekends. I miss that.

I just don't get that excited about baseball. I've been to one MLB game.

However, I'm looking forward to taking my son to a game or two at USM just to expose him to it. I never had it, but always wanted to...

Baseball's all tied up in my childhood. Childhood wasn't the best experience, but some of my happiest memories involve backyard baseball games or listening to games on the radio with my grandpa or watching the games (that's all he watched on tv...the news and baseball).

I'm proud to say I've been an Atlanta Braves fan since they sucked in the late 70's, early 80's.
I approach the new season with much trepidation. How will the newly revamped pitching staff do? Is Hampton well? Is he going to earn his $14 mil salary for the first time in several years? How about the rookie 1st baseman, Thorman? Will Chipper be on the DL most of the year again? Somebody needs to tell Schuerholz he should check with me before inking any deals! I'm still chapped about his trading Adam LaRoche.
I should make a few games. I'm only 2 1/2 hrs from the stadium. Actually I drive about 2 hours to N. Atlanta, park my car and catch Martar to the stadium. Easy trip.

Yeah, fuzzis, my son's favorite team is the Royals. His hero is George Bret. He has his baseball jersey and his rookie baseball card in fine condition. Worth some money. George was/is a class act. Sorry we snatched your GM. When Atlanta got Schuerholz from the Royals, ya'll started downhill and the Braves went from worst to first. That man is a genius. Problem with the Royals is they are in a small market. Just not enough money to keep good players, a problem the Braves are having with Time-Warner cutting payroll from $120 mil to about $80 mil. Makes a huge difference. That's the difference of between 2 and 3 All Star quality starters off the team.
Did ya'll know that Ed Assaf, man who I grew up with playing baseball in Hattiesburg, made it to the bigs with the Royals for a cup of coffee. Pretty good. He pitched at USM.

True enough about the money, but...we could be better than we are. Teams like the As somehow manage to be competitive with extremely low budgets and no-name talent.

I keep hoping that one day we'll come back around. *sigh*

It should be obvious that I am a Cubs fan. I WISH I could make it to a game at Wrigley Field, but that just won't happen this year.

My favorite team is the Belhaven Blazers, led by former USM coach Hill Denson. Lots of Pine Belt players on that team also!

As for the big leagues, I could really care less. What team are Pasquel Perez and Claudell Washington playing for now? That's my favorite team.

If the cubbies play the Evil Empire in the WS, I'll be rooting for the Cubs right with you!

I don't watch the Cubs since Harry Carey died. It's no fun to listen to coherent, sober, articulate announcers.

Wait till the first game I'll be drunk and calling it in my chair but I do miss Harry though.

Just for kicks and memories, can I get a tape of your drunken play-by-play? You must say the word "Budweiser" at least 1,000 times in 9 innings.

I usually get paid for a performance but you buy the beer I'll say it a Thousand times in 9 and will sing during the 7th inning stretch.
