I need help finding a pet groomer. I've taken Buckley to the Animal Medical Center once to get groomed and while they did a good job they were quite expensive and not very friendly either. Where do you guys get your dogs groomed?

I get mine done in the bathtub and it's free.

What? I'm not sure I want to know what expressing anal glands is.

PetSmart is about $45, there is a lady at Vet Associates (on Broadway) that is a Schnauzer specialist or something, she does it for about the same. There is a place out in Oak Grove though, Pet Groomers or Boutique? I don't know, that charges $30 and does a good job. My brother went there with his schnauzer and said they did a good job.

I don't think you'll find it that cheap around here, but if you do, let me know.

Ohh, I wouldn't go to the Animal Medical Prison if it were $5. I can't stand seeing those dogs in cages in there for sale.

I use Caring Cuts by Brenda. She is great! In fact I should call her now! She is in Petal. Very nice and friendly and for my big dog once a month it is 30.00 She drops it to 12.00 if she has a regular schedule every two weeks. I guess it is not as much work for her to keep the hair shaved close and all shiny and clean if they come every other week.

I clip BooBoo myself, sorry I can't be of help....however IF I were to take her to a vet to get her clipped I would go to the one on Broadway Dr. across from Lil Butcher shop...I have seen some of their clips and they look nice...can't advise on cost..it usually has to do with the size of dog and how bad they are matted etc. Good Luck!

yeah i tried taking mine to petsmart to get his nails clipped and stuff....i wash him myself and he never needs a haircut - his hair stays pretty short...anyways - that will be the last time i take him there bc Riley has a problem with his anal glands when getting his nails clipped and the poor woman had to go home and change her clothes...now i just stick to the vet and they take care of him...

well petsmart has nicked (sp?) kramer's ears twice now. i forget the lady's name that did him the last two times, but he will not be going back to her. i really like lakyn at petsmart. she does nahla and is great!

kramer got groomed at vet associates on broadway. the lady there used to groom schnauzers for show. she did an excellent job and was $35. and gives you a report on behavior, fleas, mats, shedding, what shampoo she uses, etc... at the end. she was good. i think we may go baack to her from now on for him.

I use Aggies on Sandy Run Road. I have used her about 15 years now. Before with my little Snow man and now with Max. Depending on what I have done 25-30.

so we've been using other ppl to groom our dogs.. however, i started last night!

i got a pair of clippers for Christmas and just started using them. i groomed Kramer, our miniature schnauzer, last night. he is a pretty difficult cut, but i think i did a great job! esp for my first time. the kit comes with instructions for all breeds and a DVD to watch. it helped. i would say that if you have the time and are willing to give it a try - it is worth it. you will save money and learn a new skill!

SB, what kind of clippers did you get? What size blade did you use to cut Kramer?

I have Oster Golden A-5 clippers and use a #10 blade on Boo. Most of the year I like to keep her clipped close. She is a black peke-a-poo and her hair gets long like a pekeinese. (sp) As a matter of fact I clipped her this morning and gave her a bath...she had gotten full of fleas..seems they are going to be bad this year if she is any indication.

After I clip her she looks like a schnauzer puppy that is about 2 months old...except she has a long tail that curls over her back! When she is clipped her hair is a grey color...the white poodle undercoat shows thru.

i am not sure what the name of them is - i'll have to look. and i am new at this so i don't know the number. all i know is ... i used only the clippers with no attachment and the switch flipped. so it is extremely short on the back, head, ears, little tail, and around the face and neck. sorry i don't know. i will do some investigating and see if i can find out. :-D

Sounds like you may have the Oster clippers too. A #10 blade does cut the hair extreme short...
