I have been waiting for one of the corporate giants to began making the switch from local user installed software that we go and buy off the shelf to internet based software that we rent yearly...this is the beginning of a trend that will turn our technological world upside down...

Before I read the article, I thought to myself "Google has been doing this for a while", I can't believe Google is going to subscription-based software though. I thought it'd always be free and be ad-supported.

I kind of thought that google was heading in that direction when they started gmail. Their documents and spreadsheets stuff is great. I think this will take off like a rocket. People can access their fee based software from almost anywhere and never worry about storage, not to mention what it does for connectivity and file sharing.

Hope they keep Gmail free, it's the only one not getting spamed all the time.

www.ewido.com (AVG software) has worked pretty good on Wynn's PC to keep a good bit of spam at bay.

Its really not that hard. Just make a cd of your essentials, files, software, etc. and make weekly backups as usual. Then as you need to, reformat your machine and reload what you need. The whole process takes about an hour and you are spam/spyware free...for the most part!

a nicely done hosts file beats all those suggestions.

I dont have anti-virus, I dont have anti-spam...i use firefox and gmail..i can surf whatever I want...ive turned off the malicious bullshit known as active X

i run ad-aware MAYBE once every 3 months and if it finds anything at all..its only one thing.

Bill (Gates) talked about this in depth when Office to over Works (which is still available?) years ago, MS is poised to go this route and it seems extremely viable to me...I invision carrying flash cards with account access....log into any pc with broadband and your desktop, files, apps......all available....i'd love it!
