I sure hope so, because the state is about to flip the bill for JSU a new stadium. USM, MSU, UM can't get funds from the state for stadiums but JSU can. Strange how that works.

If that's the case, let's destroy Veterans Memorial because it will become officially worthless.

You read just like Sid Salter. (http://www.clarionledger.com/misc/blogs/ssalter/2007/02/jsu-stadium-where-alumni-financial.html)

This is part of the plan. Some, if not all, of that land will probably go to UMC which is across the street.

Rick Cleveland had an article (http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070225/COL0504/702250384/0/SPORTS) about this issue in Sunday's C-L.

Look for the cost of a new stadium to be close to $100M, not $66M like they're saying it's gonna be.

Rick Cleveland had an excellent article on this yesterday, but I can't seem to find it.

That's a damn shame. All of our state universities should be ashamed for not using this stadium more. I know they lose some dollars on these games, but great for football in Mississippi to play in the capital.

Some of my fondest memories are from "Big" games at that stadium.

If Barbour gets re-elected he needs to start a Governor's Bowl. Bring back the rivalry and the games there. All state universities play each other, for each division. Guess who'd take home the crown?

We battled for the Fremont Cannon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fremont_Cannon) every year. Some of the best football games. :smt038 (It is currently blue. As it should remain)

It will take some "urging" from Haley and others. Ole Miss and State will never play USM again, if they don't. I'd love to see it, but I think Haley's got more friends in Oxford than he does at USM.

How many sigs would it take to get it on the ballot for general election?

To run as an independent, you have to have 1000 signatures to run for statewide office and 50 signatures for legislative or local offices To run either as a Republican or Democrat, you pay a qualifying fee that ranges from $300 for Governorr to as low as $10-$15 for local and legislative offices.

As far as a voter initiative goes, as best as I can recall off of the top of my head, I believe you have to have ten percent of the registered voters in the state sign the petition to get it on the ballot. Don't quote me on this one, though.

Can we call it the Grits Bowl instead?
