I am in Metarie before a St. Patrick's Day Parade and I will need some cabbage recipes to cook it. I can't even do the boiling or steaming. Well, I can but just never have. Tried Irish Stew one year and the other recipe was bad so the stew was blah and bad.

I need help, please.

Slice the cabbage fairly thin and saute in a skillet with butter, salt and pepper. Cook until "done enough fer ye" -- easiest thing in the world.

Here's my favorite recipe for cabbage:

Take the cabbage out of the grocery bag and wrap it in Saran wrap.

Place the wrapped cabbage on top of a sheet of aluminum foil and entirely case the cabbage with it, making sure that you can't see any part of the cabbage.

Place the aluminum shrouded cabbage in a brown paper bag and fold the top down 3 times. Tape shut with Scotch tape.

Place the paper bag inside a small plastic bag and tie the top off with a twist tie.

Place the small plastic bag inside a larger plastic bag and seal the top off with duct tape.

Place the plastic bag in the garbage and set out by the curb.

Done!

Yes...also you can do like my granny and my mom, although it is probably not as healthy, it sure makes it taste even better...fry three or four slices of bacon, take the back out or cut it into small pieces, put the sliced cabbage in it with about 1/2 cup water and then steam it down...add salt and black pepper to taste..

I come from a line of good ole southern cooks that could not cook a veggie hardly without adding bacon fat of some kind...butter is good but nearly enough like "momma's" to suit me! I may die of clogged arteries but at least I will be "full and happy!" :)

Just chop it up, chunk it in some boiling water with a big some pork, salt to taste.
It's pretty dang good mixed with corned beef hash.

I have always cooked my corned beef and cabbage this way:

Brown your corned beef in a skillet searing both sides on high heat.

In a Medium to small roaster goes:

corned beef seasoned and I use a tea colander for the corned beef seasonings and a few cups of water not to drowned the beef but cook and steam the veggies.
Slow cook all this at 300 degrees for 4-5 hours.(this depends on the weight of the corned beef)

small potatoes (peeled) I prefer the little wihte ones but you can use reds
carrots (peeled)
a few small sweet onions quartered
a few small heads of green cabbage chunked after being quartered.

Slow cook all this at 300 degrees for 1-1 1/2 hours depending on the amount of your veggies.

You don't boil away all the vitamins and it tastes great!

My other side dish favorite comes from a friend from Japan. I have no idea what it's called but it has a unique taste and sometimes I just make it to snack on.

Large head of green cabbage
chopped up pork steak or a thick slice of smoked ham.
rice vinegar
salt and pepper to taste

brown the meat in a wok or skillet
salt and pepper while searing
chop up the cabbage like you would for slaw or thin sliced for ribbons
after the meat has cooked, add the cabbage and pour the vinegar over the combination and steam until the cabbage is soft.

There you go...
