Well I for one say congratulations. Pam and her husband Will were good friends of mine in college. I knew Will a lot better than Pam as he was my fraternity brother. I congratulate the two of them on all they have to look forward to.

I'm just not sure why this made the local news program, though.
Haven't you figured out yet that people in the media use their position for convenience?
Though in fairness, I seem to remember WDAM doing this with all the other anchors that got knocked up.

Since Pamela is in a "visible" profession, maybe it was mentioned in order to head off viewers' snarky comments about weight gain, absences from broadcasts, etc.
Congratulations, Pamela! :)

I think that statement could be made for just about any profession and business - not exclusive to just those in the media. Opportunity provides avenues!
the media is the people we have trusted as a society to be THE impartial ones
too bad that got off course many years ago

Hey there, not all of us in the media use our position for convenience.

convenience is probably a bad word
how about...promoting their own agenda?

I guess I don't see what the big deal is. I personally watch the news all the time. It is just like following a character on a tv show, after a while, it feels like you know them. I could see where a lot of the audience would be interested in knowing this. How is saying, "I am pregnant" promoting an agenda?

I'm pretty sure it's more of a effort to personalize the viewing experience for the consumer. Creating personal connections can mean a great deal in regards to viewer loyalty and brand recognition.

Precisely my point.

Excuse me, this is a message board where we talk about such thrilling subjects as what we had for lunch. Why is mentioning the pregnancy of a local newscaster less interesting than that??

It could have been more personal if we'd all played a part in the pregnancy. :smt118

Wile just got some undeserved rep from me. I accidentally hit "I agree" -- that's why there's a rep and a groan on the same comment.

regardless of who the mom (or dad) is, I just hope the baby is healthy and happy and is given a good home.
