For those of you that don't know me but think that they know enough to judge me, I would like to share a few moments in my life with you. I am not trying to judge any of you for your thoughts but I would like you to know more about me before you share those thoughts.
Unlike a lot of others I have worked all my life for anything that I needed or wanted. My parents gave myself and my brothers and sister a lot of love because that was all we had. 27 years ago I applied for a job with Procter and Gamble knowing that my chances of getting this job were slim to none. I was selected out of 37 other people for this position. By the way I was the only non college graduate. 28 years later and retired I was the last Account Manager left in Mississippi.
23 years ago I divorced my first wife and took custody of two little girls, an infant and a toddler. I guess all her affairs caught up with her. With God's help and my present wife's help we have raised 2 of mine, 2 of hers and 2 of ours. We also have 8 grandchildren.
16 years ago my wife had a massive heart attack and had a quardruple bypass. I worked parttime, took care of my children and also took care of my wife. This was not because I had to, it was because I wanted to. God allows us to go down many paths that lead to our growth and commitment to others.
In 2005 God allowed me to step up to the plate and be an advocate for our children. After 4 attempts at passing the school bond and having it fail, I knew that someone on the outside need to do this. I prayed hard before stepping out but I knew this was what God had for me to do. With the prayers and help of 500 plus residents and school board we passed the first ever school bond in Lamar County.
I know there are other questions you have so let me hear from you. Joe Fortenberry
