well.....here we go again :smt118
i got offered a job at grey daniel's toyota in brandon. this place is huge- so big it's like walking thru turtle creek mall- it is that big.....
so i will be driving back and forth with 2 other guys- selling cars for 30 days or so.....then i will get my chance back in the business office up there.
i have figured out that i'm not going to make any type of good money that i am used to at my present employer....which is sad. the owner just isn't ready to "change" the way things have been done there for the past 40 years. if you are in the car biz and don't change, you will die. and that's what's happening up there when i am at now. they are comfortable with selling 30-40 cars a month, and the salespeople seem to be ok making $1500-1800 a month.
just would like everyone's opinion about this. michelle is telling me to do what i think i need to do. we are starving around here-
plus i'm sure it will be for about a year then maybe move up there after the summer or so.........

just to give you an idea:

the whole dealership is not in the picture. behind the store is I-20, to the left is nissan brandon (grey daniels), across from these 2 stores is the ford, lincoln mercury, and used car supercenter. we sell used cars on that lot too-
grey daniel's is the #1 toyota store in the southeast US, and their ford store is #3 in the nation................

As for the city itself, you could certainly do worse. I have family in Brandon and have always found it to be a nice small city. I always enjoy my stay there when we visit.
As far as the job itself is concerned...you are the only one that can decide what is going to make you happy. Seems to me that with a dealership that large, that there would be quite a bit of competition among the sales staff (which can be a good or bad thing).
The bottom line, find wherever it is that you need to be to be happy and productive. Once you find that place, the money will usually take care of itself. You and your family have to be happy with wherever that is. Otherwise, the money won't amount to a hill of beans.

michelle is telling me to do . . . we are starving around here-
Does michelle like starving, or is she telling you to get up the road?

tully, in that pic the store on the left is the ford store. the right is the used car supercenter. to the right of that would be the lincoln mercury building.....
the building are all pretty new except for the ford and used car bldg.

Noel E. Daniels is good people. We've bought and serviced most of our vehicles through him and both the sales and service staff are very friendly. You can tell when employees are contented with their work. Like Tully stated, the final decision is yours. Hope everything works out for the best and keep us informed, O.K.?

i worked at a job that i really hated for 13 years b/c i had to feed my family and thought i couldn't make it anywhere else. well thats what the bosses told me. one day i just couldn't take it anymore and like johnny paycheck said in his song i told them to that this job and shove it. best damn day of my life. i went on to better and higher paying jobs. if when you wake up every morning dreading to go to work, well maybe you just need a change. whatever you decide to do, i wish you the very best.

Carsalesguy,
It sounds like you know what you need to do - with your present job.
The car business is tough. I knowsomeone that is in the business and I hear all about the in's and out's. Some owners are content because their ship' is paid for and they could care less if their salesmen squeak out a living. In the end, with incentives, they are making enough with their "paid for" outdated dealerships with no need to change, in their opinion.
You can bet that Toyota's products are reliable and a good product to sell. Brandon seems like a wonderful place to live and it is growing! I've also heard the schools are good. Since you have asked, I'll say that it will be very hard on Michelle to be alone, especially with what you have posted in the past about your neighbors/neighborhood. That would be my biggest concern. Is it possible to rent out your house and rent an apartment for your family in Brandon? The tax breaks might be great as well. Think of all the write-offs. :)
Best of luck to you in whatever you decide to do.

I sold cars for about 6 months back when I had just turned 19.
It isnt an easy job, nor are they easy people to work for...
Best of luck finding the right thing to do.

notme, you are exactly right about continuing to work some where when the place makes you misrable. I worked like that the last 3 years while I was at H.P.D. It had started to take a toll on my health..the tension could have been cut with a knife. I stayed sick with either high b.p., allergies, nerves or all of them. I loved my job and enjoyed the people I tried to help but when you have an owner or in my case an administration who could give a sh** less about you it is time to go.
I left the p.d. in 02...and when I left, I left with a job. It was not my ideal job but about 3 months into that job, I got a better one that I loved. I would still be at that job had it not been for Hurricane Katrina hitting. I can tell you this, after I left the p.d. I got my b.p., allergies and nerves under control and have never been happier. I miss my friends (the few that are still left at the p.d.) but I had to do what was best for me and my family. I prayed for along time for the Good Lord to lead me in the right direction and he did...he will do the same for carsales to if he just ask! (sorry, didn't mean to get on a soap box)

Carsalesguy, I will keep you in my prayers and I hear Brandon is a wonderful place to live and raise a family.
All of the above advice is great. The only thing I would add is what an art teacher told me once--Do you like being a big fish in a small pond or a little fish in a big pond?( For example being in a big city or a small town) (Or working in a small company or department versus a large department or a large company) And sometimes finding a job that pays the bills is enough for now. You can always fine tune it later.
There is a lot of stress in not having enough to pay the bills or feed your family. It's good you have Michelle's support and you have Lamar county that is aware of the situation you were in and wanting different and working on it.
I know a family that lives in Brandon and loves it.
The product you would be selling is good and it sounds you like have a lot of confidence in where you would be. That means a lot.
I have heard that in Jackson car sales men can do a lot better than here in Hattiesburg--something about the way they staff or stack or whatever on the car lot.
You can always do this and go elsewhere later if you are offered a better opportunity.
If this is better than what you have now, go for it and I believe you will do well. You know what you're doing and where you want to be..
GOOD LUCK!!!!!
