Is anyone else having a bad time with allergies yet? I am quite surprised how quickly alergy season seems to have approached, I don't remember feeling this awful this early in the year. Maybe it's because I've moved to Kentucky? It doesn't seem like that would be the reason, but I definately got hit with it this weekend. It doesn't seem like a cold.

Pine pollen is getting me too. Such beautiful weather, and such misery to be out in it.

yeah, the pollen started getting to me this past Thursday... I ended up not being able to wear contacts this weekend b/c my eyes were burning so bad from it. Can allergies develop later in life? I don't recall ever reacting this way to the pine pollen...

I sneeze a couple of times when I go outside now. My allergies have gotten a lot better over the years. When I was in high school, this time of year would be a full on attack.

In the 4 years we lived in Kentucky I always felt worst from late March through mid-May. The rest of the year I had no problems although everyone had warned me that Kentucky was part of the "allergy belt" of the USA. Zyrtec worked very well for me during those few weeks. Get better soon.

I find that a combo of flonase and zyrtec with some sudafed will keep a full on attack away. I noticed yesterday how "yellow" everything was. I wanted to just spray everything down with the garden hose.

I have asthma, and nasal allergies, this is the worst time of year for me. I can't take most over the counter decongestants because they raise my blood pressure. so, springtime for me equals Kleenex time.
Seems like God could have figured out a more allergy friendly way for plants to have sex. (not that I'm complaining.)

2 weeks ago mine were driving me crazy. My sinuses were draining into my stomach causing major stomach cramps coupled with sinus pressure causing major headaches when working out. I went to the doc and got a shot of celestone and a prescription for flonase and zyrtec. Zyrtec has left me very mellow but overall feeling much better.

It seems the older I get the more prone to seasonal allergies I become. I've sniffed and sneezed quite a bit over the past week. Washed my car down yesterday because I just couldn't stand it any longer.

I've heard by several people that a good way to prevent bad allergies is eating local honey... not the kind from walmart, but something from around the area. Anyone ever tried this?

Ford, if you haven't already done this, you might talk to your doctor about Flonase. It won't raise your b/p.
I'm taking some OTC generic claritin today and it doesnt' seem to be helping much. With the wind blowingstuff around like it is, though, maybe the Rx is just outgunned!

Pine pollen is seldom the culprit. The spores are too large to easily enter your nasal membranes. Oak and other hardwood tree pollen is most often the real beast. Hardwood pollen is microscopic and the spores are nasty little jagged boogers. The hardwood pollens follow closely after the pine bloom.
That's good to know Hawk. Makes sense. Now that I think about it, I suffered a lot worse in New Orleans with all the live oak pollen.
The worst I've ever experienced was last spring when I was in the Pacific NW just as the cottonwood trees were blooming, plus whatever else foreign pollens were about -- really thought I was gonna die, and the flight back was total misery with all the congestion in my ears. I was almost in tears during the last landing.
Yep.
Hawk nailed it.
Most of the pollen right now is oak, cedar/juniper, and the grasses.

Thanks for the link, Ted. That's a good site.
Btw, I missed it if you said earlier -- are you in the sciences?

For the first time in my life, I'm really starting to empathize with allergy sufferers.... this is the first year it's affected me. This morning it's awful!!! Think I may have to make a trip to the doc on campus this morn. and get some meds.... either that or walk around all day with a kleenex glued under my nose.

Funny. No one mentioned that to me when I applied for the job :) (I would have taken the job anyway, but I could have come prepared). I have heard this several times since I moved here that Kentucky is the allergy capital of the U.S.

I hear ya. I actually woke up sneezing this morning. Perhaps my little trip to Boston tomorrow will clear some of this crap up!

Hope everyone gets to feeling better..I hope I don't get the chance to join in the "fun"! My nose has been trying to stop up, then when it opens up all I can do is clear my throat and sneeze!
I so hope I can soon afford to close in my carport and then get a garage door...my car looks like I took it to Maaco and had it painted yellow! No way to even see out the windows without washing them first!

Actually, my allergies bothered me A LOT more in Virginia than any other place. In Kentucky I was just miserable for about three weeks out of the year - so there is hope for you :)

I majored in biology, but I've always worked as an industrial lab tech and quality inspector.

Well, I just got diagnosed with possible bronchitis from allergies. Taking some steroids, cough stuff and antibiotics. Been feeling tired as hell all week. Finally feeling a bit better - still coughing a lot.
Sigh. I'll be real glad when this is over.

I never really had any allergy to the pollen season until about 3 years ago, when I got the full watery, burning, itchy eyes and swollen throat. The year after wasn't so bad, and this year left me with some stuff, but not so bad.
When i was younger, the oaks pollenating would leave me with such sensative eyes... it would be painful going from no light to full light... I remember those years... that cleared up when I was 6 or so, then nothing for 20 years, then BAM...
I don't know what it is about the time etc.... I wish I could pin it down, though...

I noticed that Jackson MS is on the list of "worst" cities today, according to Ted's site.
