depending on my upcomming trip(s) to jackson, i've been forced to look for a set of new tires.
I'm looking at doing either bf goodrich touring T/A or Michelin x-radials, both from sam's. they have a great price, and by the fact that someone else on here told me that i could go anywhere pretty much and get them taken care of if something happened, then they just seem to be the best choices.
i've been reading a lot of reviews on them, but want to see what everyone else has on their car. i'll be doing a lot of highway driving in a 2001 Honda Accord Sedan.
anyone had any bad luck or good luck with sam's/walmart tires also? i'm not going to buy those cheap a$$ douglas tires, but i know they have goodyears and dunlops as well.

i used to have a set of those nittos and they were crap.
they say that they have been having problems with the goodyear "allegra" tires, and have never heard anything good about goodyear tho......
they also carry dunlop, but dunlop were OEM tires, and they wore out too quickly......
Didn't have any problem with my yoko onos on my coupe.

Car, I'm riding on whatever Honda put on the '03 Accord. They need to be rotated too.
Dunlop and Kelly-Springfield are owned by Goodyear (http://www.goodyear.com/corporate/history/), nowdays.
Cooper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooper_Tire_&_Rubber_Company) is still independent, SFAIK.

you may find this interesting:
" Goodyear manufactures and sells more than 50 private brands of tires, and its Goodyear and Kelly (Kelly-Springfield) brands; and at all relevant times has been selling these brands and private brands of tires to the defendants, as follows: Wal-Mart (Douglas private brand); Sam's Club (Goodyear brand only); Sears (SuperGuard, Weather Handler, Eagle, Acqua Handler, Wrangler, Trail Handler and Patriot private brands; NTB private brand through acquired Western Auto stores; and Goodyear and Dunlop brands); Heafner/American Tire (Winston, Regul and Lee private brands; and Goodyear and Kelly brands); Martino Defendants (Star and Hallmark private brands; and Goodyear and Kelly brands); Tiresoles (Goodyear and Kelly private brands; no private brands); and Liberty (Kelly brand; no private brands)."

the accord came stock with dunlops, and 2 tires wore out after 15k the other 2 at 20k
they are too soft of a tire for my liking.......
everyone seems to like goodyear tho-

I got Dayton's. The treadwear rating was two times better than the twice as expensive Firestones. Avoid Kelly Tires like the plague.
Just remember to compare the treadwear ratings on them and consider the type of driving.

new job is awesome- tons of people coming in and out of the place- it's like a goldmine up there-
BTW i put 2 BF Goodrich Touring T/A pro series on the back to start with-
sam's doesn't like the fact that i am missing a lug and a stem on the front tires-

Question Car, I have the original tires on the '03 Accord, bought 3/03. However, only have about 12k miles on them (ok, I never go anywhere.) Do they go bad after a certain length of time even if they have low miles? I ask because the last time I had a new car was 1991 and I don't remember.

I currently have falkens on the wagon, but they're crap... I really liked the sumotumo tires I had on there, but I didn't want another 80,000 mile tire on my 150K car... not that I hope it doesn't go that far, just I wasn't going to invest that much in it...
I can't afford Goodyear tires...

I've had Goodyears since I started driving, never had a problem, always got them at the Goodyear location in Petal. My father-in-law goes 'somewhere else' and gets the cheapest tire he can get, they don't last 6 months, I can't get him to understand, you get what you pay for. Now, he'll buy good tires for his rods, but for daily drivers, he buys CRAP.

i think they don't- but you really need to keep them rotated. i've done some research on tires here lately, so i can get the best deal.
honda quit putting dunlops on the cars, so don't worry about that soft tire getting worn out-
but you want to definitely get them rotated. and keep them rotated more frequently.

i like the bfgoodrich's that i got-
i had sumotumo's on the accord from sears, and it changed the whole driving dynamics of the car. unfortunately, they crack around the sidewall, and when it get's bad enuf they blow out. and sears doesn't want to honor the warranty.
i've been selling cars since 2000, and have never seen a tire "crack" around the sidewalls like the sumotumos- and had a dumba$$ tell me every tire cracks. i said that i would bet him $100 per car out in the parking lot that had cracks in the tire walls, that were not worn to bits, and it was normal. guess what? he didn't take it even tho every tire cracks like that and it is normal.
Cooper Cobras
i had those on my s10- didn't get too good service out of them- soft tires also.
