I've got a girl friend who signed on a $5000.00 bail for her then boyfriend ... of course they aren't together any longer (imagine that) ... and he's refused to make the payments. The jerk has her convinced that if she doesn't keep up the payments that not only will his bail be revoked and he go back to jail, but that she will go too ... Does anyone know if there is any truth to this??
Or better ... what are her responsibilities as the signer?
She should contact the bail bond company she used and tell them she wants off the bond. They may still want their money or they may go off his bond and pick him back up and he'll have to bond out again. Most of the time, if a bondsman goes off someones bond, other bondsman will not bond them out. They'll have to cash bond out. Oh yeah, she will NOT be arrest also. The worse that could happen is they'll want their money. More than likely, if she let them know what kind of a$$hole he is, they'll go off his bond and pick him back up.

Thanks all of ya'll for explaining that . What is the difference in a bail and a bond? When you hear someone is up for a million bail and then it is 10% of that someone has to come up with, right?
I have watched Dog, the bounty hunter, chasing people and I guess that is when someone runs out on the bond.
Dog is the bondsman that bonds someone out of jail. The judge sets the bail amount, say $1,000,000, Dog charges 10% of that, 100,000 plus jail fees, to the person in jail for them to get out. If that person misses any court dates or fails to appear, Dog has so many days to produce them or pay the $1,000,000. The ones Dog is chasing are the one's that FTA, failed to appear.

Thanks, IGID. I get all that mixed up. You straightened it out for me.
So, if those people fail to appear, can Dog or the bonding co. be out that money or have to pay it to someone?
Well, what is a BOUNTY hunter ? Is a bounty what a bad or expired bond turns into????

Thanks, Hawkeye.
I have watched Dog and sometimes wonder if he doesn't count on his image or name scaring more people or giving him more protection than it does. I know some are afraid of the Dog, but there are too many variables--drugs, desperation and nothing to lose.
I never put him in the same as the croc hunter but I see the parallel now.
Sometimes, craving the media glory and all can make them lose touch and focus with the worlds they are dealing with.
At this point I believe the dog does depend on his reputation. Most Recovery Agents are pretty bad (tough) and DO carry weapons other than spray. That is what makes me think he is going to get hurt or even worse someday. Most criminals have a weapon the day they get out on the streets. Bounty Hunters have to fight fire with fire and have the right to do so.
