In an attempt to make sure all your friends and relatives can keep up with every single thing you do, you can now twitter all your events. What the heck does this mean? Well, this web site allows you to send via IM, phone, or web what you are doing right this minute. If I'm correct, the web site will then send these notifications to everyone on your friends list (that have IM or phone activated). This seems to be the hot topic on the internets today, so I signed up to see what all the fuss was about. Many are comparing this to the newest way to "phone blog".

I can't use that. I love my friends and family. I don't want them to die of utter boredom. ;)
PS the link didn't work.

Actually, apparently it's getting so much traffic today it's bringing the site down.

I have no desire for people to be able to know where I am at all times.

Goodness gracious. I agree, I don't need to be found all the time. We all need our time away. I also am probably to my limit technological wise with a good old computer.

I am reminded of the copy letter you get at Christmas that is so impersonal and dreaded.
I would rather have a handwritten 3 or 4 lines saying Hi, Daisy>>>>>>>>
No one I know wants to see me 24/7 because they all have lives involving their duties , interests and activities.
And I don't think I am that much of a celebrity. If I get pegged or taped all day I want to be paid for my own reality show.

I didn't know what "twittered" meant when I first saw this thread, but it sounded like something that I probably haven't done for several years now.

Well, I really don't think it's only a tool to tell everyone where your at. That is one possibility. If you were on the beach and thought about something you wanted to tell all of your friends about that moment, then this would probably be useful. In fact, it might be useful to announce certain events. You could send "I'm getting married" to everyone on this list in a matter of seconds.

That would tell me that you are at Ropers and its last call. You have on strong heavy beer goggles with Jägermeister rims and she is Coyote ugly!!!!

I have never twittered - nor do I ever plan to start. :) Too many people know my every move now and if they need to find me, they have my cell phone number. I remember a day - very long time ago - when you could leave your house for a few hours and NO ONE would know where you went. Oh, those were the days.

Anyone think this could be used to our advantage? Let's say we set one MH user up, everyone ads just that user, then any updates that user sends out could be sent to the entire group. Like for weather alerts, news updates, etc.?

hhuuuhhh...isn't that what we do here now? :) Could we be any better informed as a group?

Yeah, but we're talking cell phones now, and reducing it to only the important updates. "Katrina has been upgraded to a hurricane" for example.

No, actually they are up to 80,000 users now and the Financial Times came out with a story today talking about setting up a way to twitter you the news. It just got me thinking.

well i signed up so we could test it out. and it really does work. sends a text in a matter of seconds. and you have up to 140 characters i think.
aaron's idea might be good for those who are away from computers all day or just not able to get on the site. i think this would be a good idea to receive updates via text.

I use Twitter..not for texting though. I haven't tried that. I sticked their widget on one of my websites and on myspace. I liked how Jason Calacanis uses his..more of an update to what's going on with him than an up to the minute report on what he is doing at that very second.

Are there any more people doing this now?

I haven't used it but on KLOVE about two weeks ago they were talking about a church that encourages Twitter during the sermon. The questions and comments by the congregation show up on a screen for everyone. I guess the pastor may address some of them. Kind of interesting I thought. I wouldn't want it at my church though, I would get too distracted reading everyone's comments.
