I regret all the time I spent tanning in the past. I've cut back drastically and just use sunless tanner here and there now.

I've recently started tanning for the first time in my life b/c i'm tired of hearing "damn you're white" or "why are you so white". So society, if i get cancer, It's all for you.

Meh. I revel in my blinding paleness. I figure I'm compensating for the orange Malibu Barbie wannabes out there.

aaron, your picture has me paranoid! I pray to God the years I spent tanning doesn't make me llok TOO awful one day. Luckily, even though I'm naturally fair skinned (the Irish side of the fam), I tan really easily and hardly ever get sunburned (Choctaw side)!
Uh oh. What's the fat people going to do?

The first summer I lived in Reno, I gave myself a very bad 2nd degree burn in an hour at Tahoe. It was incredibly painful, and ever since, I've been pretty vigilant about sunscreen (although...I did burn my boobs Saturday at the parade).
I used to tell my students that their skin changed color because it was DAMAGED...and I was rather strict about making sure they applied sunscreen when we were on field trips.
I am quite happy with my pale skin. I don't have the patience for self-tanners or the like because I'm content to be casper-ish. I know that the best determiners for wrinkles is genetics and your exposure to the sun. My genetics aren't that great, so I'm doing all I can to make sure the exposure to the sun isn't a real factor.

I thought Mardi Gras was over. Besides, aren't most of those parades at night? :smt102 :alchoholic: :exit2:

Holy Moley! That woman looked like cow leather! eeeeewwwww
I have never been one to lay out in the sun and I have never used a tanning bed...I get very dark though from just working in the yard some or being out when it is windy....I have alot of indian blood on both sides of my family so I reckon that is why I pretty much stay tan year round...I will look like a gingerbread cookie! When I was little (back in the 50's) my mom would get my hair cut short in the summer and a perm in my hair...of course it would be kinky curly...of course I would almost look like a little black girl! :)

Bama, please don't take this lightly! Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer & has a poor survival rate because it is so aggressive.

Her wrinkles have wrinkles. :smt103
And she is wearing a metallic scrunchie in her hair. :smt103
I wonder which product helped her achieve that luscious leathery skin--Crisco, or baby oil and iodine?

Eeeewwwww.....thanks for the pic Aaron. I can skip lunch today. I've had horrible sunburns in the past and now I just deal with my paleness. I'm a blonde and only have two colors - white and red. I'll go with the white and use sunless tanners when necessary. I SOOOOOO don't want to turn into this unfortunate creature.

i usually tan for one of two months in the spring - right after winter to get a base tan. i tanned all last month. then i spend my summers by the pool or on the beach (as much as i can). i enjoy the sun.

I too will die fat and brown. I love the sun. I wear sunscreen in the real sun and I start off slow in the tanning bed and build it up. My parents had a tanning salon growing up. I honestly believe that if I was going to get skin cancer I would have had it already. I had a key to the place. I abused the privelage. You should not stay in a 30 minute tanning bed for an hour. I did. That is like 10 hours in noon day sun. I did not burn because I went so much. PS- i tried the tricks too. You can't cook a hotdog in a tanning bed- It won't even get hot. ALSO - I have had 2 kids and work just fine down there too.
The sun and all of the kinds of rays that it produces is bad. Tanning beds only produce certain ones of these rays. It is also bad if you abuse it like I did in the past. I say get a base tan so that you don't burn in the sun- and always always 365 days a year wear sunscreen. You will get a healthy glow still- you just may not get cancer.
