That's it, I'm outta here.

i think it is a few more rules and setup to remind everyone of rules that were there in the first place-

obviously there is a thread out there calling names and using racial slurs, or was in the past, and aaron was reminding us to mind our mannors

I had it do it to me also. I read the terms of service and see that I am warned to consult a legal or professional before taking the advice of any user posting on here and that I do not and cannot hold anyone liable for advice.

So, Wilebill, I guess you are clear on the cabbage recipe. Joking. I thought it was funny.

I think it was a disclaimer to say this is an internet site and I post my real name , address or phone # at my own risk. The rest of it was good manners and also to protect the Website and the users from some person that took my advice even if it was joking.

(21) The author of these terms has no obligation to testify or otherwise appear in any case regarding these Terms of Service. If the author done appear due to a court order or any equivalent I agree to pay the author $250/hr for his services.

$250 an hour? Ouch!

How much would it cost to enroll the author in 7th grade English? :)

once the site gets to a certain level of popularity...you have to cover your bases with this type of thing

however...if my experience with dealing with communities and the administration of such on t3h intarw3b has taught me anything...its this

it doesnt matter

this site actually has a really good community moderation tool at its disposal...though i would like to see it behave a little more like slashdot in that if someone gets enough neg rep or 'groans'...the post is natively hidden and requires a click to view.

the whole terms thing though...makes it easier to sleep when you kick someone off the boards

Well, my question is...

"These Terms of Service will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the *your state here*..."

Just where do I find the Great Sovereign State of "your state here?"

Oh, well, I'm legal again!

Well, after reading through some articles in my spare time yesterday, I found this great Terms of Service agreement that the author would allow me to use. After talking with the author, I decided to add it to my site and combine it with another addon that I already had that basically allows you to reinforce site rules. I didn't realize that it would immediately ask everyone to agree to the rules and make them lose posts in the process.

It's all very standard stuff and I'd say that it doesn't pertain to 100% of the members here, but after reading through some of the articles I did, I quickly saw that a lot of the bigger forums are doing this. It certainly doesn't remove any more rights than the Microsoft EULA that you agree to every time you install Windows XP or Office.

I think it is a good CYA policy to have this on the board. Just my 2 cents.

Well, after the last "site cleaning", our posts per day have been cut in half. So I figure this is as good of a time as any to run everyone else off.

I would like to apologize for not letting everyone know beforehand about this change. That's not like me. The usual process is to bring it before the council and then make the change and alert everyone to what is going on. In my defense, I did this late last night, it had been a long day, and I didn't think it was going to have the impact it did.

Just know this...if you leave, you can't come back as someone else. The new T&A (that's terms and agreement) won't allow it.:smt118

I love rules!
I find them difficult to follow, easy to forget, and fun to misinterpret, but I think everybody should have some.

Amandah, that's exactly what I did. I may be booted off here before the weekend is over. :)

LOL! One of these days not reading the things are going to get me in trouble. I have visions of someone knocking on my door and saying "okay, pursuant to the terms and conditions you agreed to run down Main Street naked." :smt118

Reminds me of the Monty Python skit where the guy signs an organ donor card so they come to get his organs.
