My doggie is home! :smt050 :smt050
She's super cute, and currently resting on my lap. I put her down on the floor in the kitchen (where she'll be hanging out during the day), and she cried and cried. The cats are locked in the other half of the house. Not quite ready to introduce them yet. *sigh*
Pictures later.

Thanks! She's on the floor at my feet right now. Poor baby. She's used to being an outside puppy, and now she's indoors. She's used to 9 brothers and sisters and now she just has two cats that she can't meet yet.
It's gonna be a rough transition for her. :(

We'll have to do that. Thursday she's supposed to go out to meet her Cousin George.
She's been asleep for the last two hours. Just had dinner and then promptly went outside. Good, good girl.
Cobbler really, really doesn't like her collar.

No, not purebred. I think No-Halo said the momma was black lab/dalmation, and they hadn't figured out who the daddy was. She looks just like a lab, though. :smt050

Do yourself a favor and never read "Marley and Me."
It's the story of the author's relationship with the world's worst dog. 98% of the book is great; however, the final 2% is maddeningly depressing.
You can probably guess why.

Congrats on your new addition! My new puppy is getting big too. I wish she would just stay cute and sweet and not the toy mauling thing she has turned into. No toy is safe!

I agree completely. Within a week she won't even know she's still wearing the collar. Now the leash will probably take a little longer. She'll also get accustomed to the crate. Trust me, the crate will become "your" best friend as well.
When we brought Max in in December (after he was diagnosed with the heartworms), I thought I would have a time on my hands, crate breaking him. He had been an outside doggie for 3 1/2 years and had not been in a crate since he was a wee pup. He was so hyper ALL THE TIME. But it really wasn't that bad. Other than when the alarm went off in the mornings he would whine and scratch at the gate and then when we came home (at lunch or after work) he would scratch knowing he was fixing to got outside and then would not have to go back in the box for a while.

She still has the collar on, and every time we go out, the leash goes on...even though our going out consists of me carrying her to where I want her to go potty and her sitting there looking at me like I'm nuts.

Since she's so small yet I don't want to rush her into the crate...right now we're getting used to the idea of the crate. Her food bowl is in front of the open door...I gave put a treat right inside of it this morning and she stuck her head in to get it. There's a lot for her little self to get used to right now...coming indoors, the loss of her companions.
Can't wait to get home and check on her.

Her food and water should be in the crate. That way she'll feel comfortable going in there.

fuzzi, you probably need to go to Petsmart and get one of the big bottles to go on the door for her water...it will take her a few days to figure out how to get the water out so she can drink it....that way she won't make a mess and turn the water bowl over when you do leave her crated. I had the water bottles for my dogs and it made things so much easier and cleaner...They use the bottles alot in rabbit hutches so the bunnies can drink without getting in the water bowls...works great for doggies too. Get a BIG bottle though...if it is hot and she drinks alot small ones will empty too fast.

Actually she wasn't home when I got home, which about gave me a heart attack. The neighbor said that she came over, took her outside, and brought her back in...but Cobbler wouldn't stop crying after she put her back in the kitchen, so she took Cobbler home with her.
She's back in the kitchen now. Took me about 10 minutes to get her to quiet down. Sat on the floor on the other side of the gate and let her lick my fingers as she cried. :smt022 When she was quiet, I told her what a good girl she was...gave her a cookie. She's now asleep. I'm hoping that I can scoot out and she'll remain quiet for awhile.

Puppies are like kids. If you run to them every time they cry, they'll cry all the time. She's training you as you try to train her. You're going to have to fight it and let her cry herself to sleep so she'll know crying won't help.

That's what I'm afraid of. Last night when she woke me up an hour after we went to bed, I stood in the doorway and told her no a couple of times...that low, authoritative voice. She hushed in a couple of minutes and I went back to bed.
