I am praying for Blake as well as his family and friends. I do hope that he responds well to his treatments soon. Sometimes it is darkest before the dawn. May Gods love be felt not only by Blake but his family and friends as well.

I have a friend of the family who, to most of our suprise, is struggling with a drug and alcohol addiction. We think it is the biproduct of a very bad relationship. She is a young, bright woman with a bright future ahead of her if she and we can get her past this problem. Right now, everyone is trying to figure out the best course of action for an "intervention."

In the meantime, please pray for this young lady.

I have a friend of the family who, to most of our suprise, is struggling with a drug and alcohol addiction. We think it is the biproduct of a very bad relationship.

The bad relationship may have accellerated the problem, but alcohol and drug addition are one and the same creature - not byproducts of anything, except a genetic predisposition blended with poor coping skills, which usually present themselves earlier than being old enough to have a "very bad relationship."

Think back about your friend, how she has always been - perhaps "driven", perhaps prone to mood swings from time to time? Withdrawn over issues which might not have been so drastic, but she withdrew nonetheless? Or - has she always worked REAL real hard at "appearing" normal? Humm?

There is no getting past addiction. It's there for the balance of one's life unless and until the Magic Cure comes along. She'll always need to stay clean and sober. ALWAYS.

Call Pine Belt Mental Health and ask for an "intervention specialist". They'll tell you precisely how it is done and what you and your friends and family can do to help this bright, young woman who - if truly addicted - has but three choices:

1. Sobriety
2. Insanity
3. Death

She, and you and your efforts on her behalf will be in my prayers until you report to us that she's getting help.

Private Mail me if you need to "talk" or ask questions about this difficult situation. Trust me one more time - I'm a certified expert on the issues.

This getting older crap isn't all it's cracked up to be, is it? It's hell when we have to cut out our favorite foods to be healthy. Eating is one of the joys of life, but so is breathing.

I've not done a great job of taking care of my physical self in the past 2-3 years. It seems there has always been something or someone who needed my attention more. Anyway, I went for my checkup last week only to find that the lack of attention has taken its toll on me. Cholesterol, triglycerides and other blood counts aren't so good - and to top it off, I'm now mildly diabetic. Needless to say, it's a big wake up call for me - and I'm in full gear trying to stop my patterns in their tracks.

My prayer request is this: I've already made major changes in diet and medication. That's difficult in and of itself. And, my doctor is scheduling tests galore one right after the other. I ask that you pray for me during these tests. My big heart scan is Friday a.m. followed by eye exams that afternoon. The heart test will take around 4 hours and will let us know if my bypasses have any blockages. I'm praying that it will show nothing that will require action at this time - other than medication and diet. And, pray for my son - he gets a bit unsettled when there's something wrong with Mom. Many thanks in advance for your prayers - I'll keep you posted.
QM, I just went through what you're about to go through. I asked for prayers too. I was frightened too. As one who knows exactly how you feel, I will pray with all my heart for you. This is NOT the end of the world, okay? If you need to know what to expect, PM me. The tests are a breeze and nothing bad to experience. Okay? I just pray for good results.:smt023
God Bless You
Mike

Just know that before you walk into a room for any test that God entered just prior to you getting there and is waiting for you to arrive, holding your hand as the test is occuring and will walk you back outside to your car. He will drive home with you and He will take away your worry and will watch as you try to sleep and will be there when you get the results. He will celebrate the good news and He will hold onto you in bad news. He will walk with you as you exercise and will sit down with you as you rest. He will be there and He will hold your hand. A promise. If you don't believe me just hold your hand up high and see if He takes hold. I will pray.

I don't pray because I don't believe, but a request from a friend of mine has come along, and since she believes, I would appreciate it you could pray for her and her daughter.

Megan has been ill since birth...a neurological disorder. Yesterday morning, she started having seizures and they couldn't get them to stop without heavily drugging her. They brought her home from the hospital today...all but comatose...because my friend wants her to be at home, surrounded by family and people who love her. She knows Megan won't be with her much longer, but she is praying for one more week. Megan will be two this coming weekend, and it's important to my friend that she makes it to that birthday.

So, if you could pray for Megan...and her momma...I'd be grateful.

Got an email from Suzy this morning. Megan is resting easier but is not awake. Suzy says it's a catch-22 because the medications that keep Megan with her destroy her organs. She's just not ready to let go yet. :(

"Failure to Thrive" it states. "Failure to thrive."

Ya'll pray for Warren for me. My mother, if she were still alive, would appreciate it, I'm thinking. Or, maybe not.

Just wondering, does that mean that your uncle in TN can be charged with neglect? MS has a neglect charge I would think most states do. Prayers go out for all of you....that was such a senseless death.

No that is not neglect, some of the elderly get or have Failure to thrive (http://www.aafp.org/afp/20040715/343.html), The Doc can call it whatever they want but in reality they are just ready to go.

Some infants are born with Failure to thrive too.

First, thank you for your prayers, all of you.

Secondly, yes - the uncle in Tennessee can and will be charged (if that's a good word) with neglect. In Mississippi, there are more than one option in elder abuse cases, and the option in this case is already in place. It's called a Tort of Outrage. It is my hope than when the Court speaks in this case, the man in Tennessee not only will have not gotten away with conspiring to steal his brother's entire estate but will, in the end, be punitively deprived of one iota of that estate.

Eyescene, you need to run a Google check for elder abuse, failure to thrive, and see what you get. While it is true that the medical terminology is ordinarily used in infant mortality cases, there is a rise in elder abuse cases that result in death from a "failure to thrive." The death certificate in my uncle's case not only shows that as a cause, but two others as well, including a major contributing factor called "subcutaeous (sp) ulcers." That factor is backed up with multiple photographs taken by the doctor's order when my uncle finally arrived back in Mississippi, one month ago today. Basically, my uncle's entire posterior - from shoulders to his heels, were open wounds which involved exposure of the bone, with MRSA, in his right leg.

Abuse? Absolutely. Criminal abuse? My mind says yes, but my heart still refuses to believe. That's what happens when you look into the eyes of someone who is a criminal, and your mother's eyes look back at you.

Wow, Sue I really hate that you found your uncle in such bad shape. I never read anything about the bed sores on his body. I don't always read everything posted on MH.

I have seen and taken care of, a lot of bedsores in my 20 years in medicine. And these were, while working @ our local nursing homes. I have seen some bedsores all the way to the bone!! Anyway you look at it it is still neglect.

I wish you peace, wisdom and knowledge on how best to deal with this situation.

IF for some reason he doesn't get it here on earth, rest assured he WILL get it one day....

I'm so sorry about your pain, the difficulties you're facing. Know that you are loved by the Almighty, always, and keep your grasp tight on your faith. I have been going to Jackson for 2 years and all they do is treat me for pain and my now crazy mind and keep measuring the tumor, cyst, mass or whatever word they want to use that day, and continue to say "you are a high risk".....It is in the bend of my right leg (groin area) and the pain radiates to my leg across my stomach and into my right side and back area, a lot of days I am in bed and some days I can not walk and other days I am sick from the meds, But today the meds did not make me sick and I was able to walk with minimal pain and a limp so my husband and I went out to eat. I am glad y'all that said you are having a good day are having a good one. I want everyone to know that I just automatically consider the people I don't even know on here to be a friend of mine too. Many I don't know, didn't know I knew, and those I did know helped me through my hubbys 2 cancer surgeries by praying and writing positive things on here for me. It helped so much, and I still thank each of you for your concern. I always read this topic on here so I can pray for those needing prayers. I may not respond personally, but you can bet I do pray for ALL who ask. God bless all of you and may we all continue to pray for each other. We have a great group here and I appreciate each and every one of y'all.

My daughter (10 yrs) and her two friends (10 yrs) were out climing a tree today. One they have climbed several times. One of her friends feel out of the tree. They were up about 15-20 feet. She lost traction and feel. She hit a branch, but it gave way. She landed on her side. She was taken to Forest General hospital via ambulance. I just found out that they have taken the mother and her via ambualnce to Jackson. She has broken her pelvis and FG does not have a pediatric surgeon.

Please pray that she makes a full recovery and that her parents can find a way to pay for the medical bills as they do not have insurance and struggle to make ends meet.

Maybe at UMC she can be a "teaching patient" and that will lessen the impact of the bills. In the meantime, of course we'll pray for her.

No, it happened at the old Kiwana's Club in Petal. They did not have permission to be on the tree. They have climbed on it for over a year.

My eldest grandster goes to UMC tomorrow for his yearly checkup with his pediatric cardiologist. We will find out how his repair from earlier surgeries is holding up...He has a pig valve and some other components that do not grow as he grows, so at some point his repair will have to be taken down and redone. Your prayers would be appreciated....the longer we can wait to do his next surgery, the better off he will be. He's really a great kid, and to look at him, you would not know what he has been through because he seems so "normal". Also, the surgeon that did his first repairs has retired, and when the next surgery becomes necessary, we will have to find a new surgeon. Mississippi does not have a surgeon that can do this repair. Say a prayer that we choose the right hospital and surgeon when it becomes necessary.

A note on an earlier comment. All patients at UMC are actually teaching patients. Social workers will help to see what aid you may qualify for if you do not have insurance and cannot afford care....medicaid, ect. I do know that my grandson's cardiologist sees medicaid patients and "insurance" patients in a different part of the hospital. It is really a great place if you have a seriously ill patient. Most of the doctors there have no qualms about referring their pediatric patients to major medical centers if there is a problem they cannot handle. You cannot worry about the money in situations like this....the good Lord has a way of taking care of things if you put your trust in Him.

Thank you so much for giving the correct information! I used to work in a pediatrics residency program at a medical school (in another state) and didn't know how that actually worked here.
Your baby is in my prayers.

I hope I have given the correct info. It is all sooo confusing. I do know that my grandson had insurance...he could have also qualified for medicaid if we had applied BEFORE he left the hospital the first time...but we didn't, and I'm kind of glad. I think the rules have change somewhat since he was born, but I do know of some folks that were sent away from local hospitals in the past because they were medicaid patients. Seems so strange...I do know that my grandson's cardiologist sees medicaid patients and insurance patients in a different area of the hospital.
By the way, he's not a baby anymore...he's 9 now. He had 4 surgeries before he was two. I do know that you can't worry about the money when it comes to your child's life. God always seems to provide a way...

The Grandster had his cardiology appointment and things are still looking good. He will go back next July, probably for a cath. The doctor said that his next surgery was probably 2 years away. We also found out that UMC has a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon that may be able to do the repair. It seems that he is getting the same results as Boston on this particular repair. That is really good news. It would be great if we didn't have to travel so far to get the next ones done. UMC really has some great doctors for children, but it is still necessary to send them to the larger centers for some problems.
Thanks for your prayers.. I know from experience that they work.

Fishing girl, how is your dad? I hope all went well.

I would like to ask everyone to pray for my son and his buddies as they travel to the mountians. I think they will end up in SC. But with my son you never know what he will do. I asked him to not jump off the waterfalls because the water level is so low. I don't know if they took the kayaks or not. I forgot to look outback. But my biggest fear is they will find the hang gliding place I saw last week. Yep, he'd do that in a heartbeat. I didn't tell him not to because he might not know it is there. They will be camping in the tent and eating who knows what. At least I know he took soap because I made sure of that. Of course he has probably lost it by now. I hope the weather will be good for them. I also forgot to mention don't play with the bears. He would. Honestly that child is putting nails in my coffin as we speak.

Please also pray for Elle May and Hawkeye as they travel. And for Berth to keep all her parts on.

Ya'll pray for our pups, they have to be put to sleep (temporarily) to get their teeth cleaned...and I ain't trying to pull an Ellen Degeneres here cause yeah I know they are just dogs but if something happened to them while they were under the knife It would be almost like losing children...you dog lovers understand.

Fur babies deserve our prayers too! They have a heart and feelings just like we do and they have more love to give then alot of people I know. Prayers are going up for you and them..keep us posted on how they do.

My little doggy is just like a child to me...I tell her "you are momma's little girl!" :) She probably gets told how much she is loved more than alot of kids do.

Just got a text from my daughter.........I don't know any details yet but she said it was the scariest trip of her life. At one point everyone was yelling and in her words, "I thought I was a goner," but they did land safely and she said she would call when she got to the hotel.
