I thought it would be wonderful to start a prayer request thread for all us who is requesting/needing prayer.
I believe in all my heart the power of prayer and think this would be a great way to get more prayers lifted for those in need...
I will go ahead by asking for all of you to pray for the Holcomb family of Petal.
A young man by the name of Chris lost his life this past Saturday. His truck struck a tree and the truck burst into flames. Chris was only 24. Just the Saturday prior he was in his siters wedding. I can only imagine what she and her parents are going through right now.
Please pray for this family during this time of loss and suffering.

Wow- I can't imagine how hard that must be. I will definately keep them in my prayers.
Thank you for starting this thread. I think it's good for me to hear what others are going through because it keeps me from getting too caught up in what's going on in my life. It's so easy to be self-absorbed and forget that there are others out there hurting and in need of love and prayer.

I always pray for the family when I read about an accident like that. It just tears your heart out.
(Speaking of prayers, when I was in New Orleans I picked up the habit -- from my Catholic friends -- of making the sign of the cross when an ambulance comes past on a call. Just a quick little prayer for the person involved.)

Well, I feel like this is a really trivial prayer request (especially considering all that's going on in the world today)... but, If any of you could just take a small moment sometime this week and say a little one for me? I will be taking the National Counselor Exam this Saturday, and comps next Friday. I'm so overwhelmed right now, but I trust God (and my motivation :) ) to help get me through. I know I worry too much, but there's a lot of pressure riding on these 2 tests... if I don't pass- then I've basically spent 2 really rough years for nothing...
Thanks... So glad I have you guys to turn to!!!

As someone who has done graduate comps, I know the anxiety you are feeling.
Just keep in mind that you have been building your knowledge base through all of your courses. You know a lot more than you think you know.
You really do. :)

My heart is is just broken for the students and families at Virginia Tech. This is just horrible. I just can believe this. I read one of the papers the shooter wrote and he was indeed a troubled man. I just hate he did not get any help and felt that he had to do this.

I have a cousin whose daughter who is basically legally blind. I forget the name of the disease or syndrome. The little girl is 6 and is also on home dialysis every night and is in a regular school. My cousin is going to give her kidney to her daughter soon.
They are both going through counseling and all the preliminary testing and screening. I hear it will be much harder for the donor, the mother.
The mother is probably about 41. This is her only child and the father is very supportive and designed the equipment set up and helps as well.
Oh by the way, they live in Texas.

Nice pun Hermione. :) I'm surprised at the lack of prayer requests. I'm with Doc. No need is trivial to God. Don't think yours is. I won't. Quite frankly I'm really struggling about moving back to Hattiesburg or staying here in Greenville. I've been praying about it and I would appreciate it if you guys would pray for an answer too. Thanks.

Amazing. The HHS Class of '64 has lost zero to drugs. In fact we've lost about 12-14 total in this time. Pretty good record, huh? I'll pray for those losing the battle with drugs.

I posted earlier in this thread about my great uncle who had a quadruple by-pass last week. Although he has come through the surgery with only a few minor complications, he is teetering on the verge of a depression. In fact, my family is having a whole lot of trouble getting him to even eat a small something each day. I'd ask you all to please keep him in your prayers. He is having a tough time right now.
Also, my sister who will be graduating from Mississippi College in May with a degree in education has received a job offer to teach 6th grade math at Byram Middle School. She is very excited but is not sure whether she wants to take the job. Please remember her as she makes her first ADULT decision!

I would like my Uncle Loyd placed on the prayer request at your churches. He is 87 years old, an Alzheimer's patient, has been taken away from his home by a brother who basically kidnapped him from my care and took him out of state. I found out today that he is in a hospice, and I'm fearful that means he hasn't long to live. I'm deep into a legal proceeding to have him brought back to Mississippi, and it's going well, but . . . I'm very sorrowful tonight, and my Uncle needs prayers so much. For that matter, so do I.

lots going on w/ my family right now....
my cousin in a freak accident killed a 10 yr old boy and needs prayer as well as the boys family. The boy was also an only child.
my great aunt has cancer and they were going to do surgery to remove it but when they opened her up the cancer is everywhere. My aunt has no idead that she has it as bad as she does her kids do and don't know how to tell her and to deal with this since this has come as a shock.
my grandfather has colon cancer and they have found a spot on his lungs not sure if it is cancer or not but we go back to the doctor on July 6 for another x-ray.
Please keep them in your prayers!
Misfit, I will pray for you and your family. My husband had colon cancer and Dr. Girod removed the cancer and he is fine now. I am sorry for your cousin and this will take a lot of time for him to come to grips with it-he just has to keep being told it was just that-an accident. My prayers are with you and your family. Keep your hopes strong for your grandfather. Colon cancer can be beat. If he needs a surgeon here in town for this Dr. Girod at Wesley is the man to talk to. Good luck and keep the faith. God knows what will be best and will help guide you through your troubles.

I have been a patient with him since 03....he did the surgery on my leg after I was blind-sided in the nasty car wreck. I had gone to several other docs and they kept telling me there was nothing wrong with the leg...Dr. Melancon found the problem and took care of it...gosh this has ruined my day! :(

Petal, it does seem like a lot of bad news all around us. Probably some of it is that because of computers, TV, etc we just hear about so much, and of course as we get older we know more people, the people we know are getting older, etc. etc.
But on the bright side, here are two people who would have just died, a hundred years ago. We have a lot to be grateful for.

I got an update on Dr. Melancon's condition today. A lady who works there(at Southern Bone & Joint) said that he will have to take chemo & that he would never be able to do surgery again, but that he is hoping to be able to come back to his office & see his patients. The tumor was malignant so that is why he will have to take chemo. This fine Christian man needs all of the prayer that he can get. My husband & I pray for him daily.

I just heard from family and Erin, the 7 year old cousin came through surgery and us now in i.c.u. The mother is the only one able to go in and visit and Kim, the mother was sent to Ronald McDonald House to rest.
Hospital staff said Erin is very sedated and needs rest. Kim, the mother does as well. Kim just finished a 40 hr. week at her part-time job and gotnotice this morning that a donor was available.
I will keep ya'll posted. I am glad Kim didn't have to donate 1 of her kidneys because she has high blood pressure and is very thin. And it takes the donor a long time to recuperate.
Of course, I am sorry about the other with the donor.

Back, well almost 11 yrs ago now...my husband had to have quad bypass...died three times on the operating room table...many complications after that...at the same time my mom had been diagnoised with lung cancer.
I could never have coped with it all had it not been for the love and prayers of my friends and family members. Sadly I lost my mom to the cancer in 1999 but my hubby is doing well so far. I am asking for prayers for my family and myself. We have been faced with a major crisis and we all just need strength to get through it and endure it. Need peace and need guidance. We are praying for a miracle and believe miracles happen. God has a plan but this one is hard to understand but I know we are not to try. I am going to pick up that Charles Stanley book - that sounds great. He has another one that is GREAT - When God is Silent - uses the background of Job for his teaching. Sometimes I just want to remind the Lord that my name is NOT JOB. Anyway, I heard something the other day - Greater Glory through Sufferring. I do believe God wants to see how we react to the adversity and if we give up. Well we aren't going to do that - but it is tiring. If you could just remember us in your prayers

Ya'll keep my family, my uncle Loyd particularly, in your prayers this evening. I have a court hearing in the morning, a consolidation of all motions outstanding in my conservatorship case, and once those are ruled upon by the judge, it should clear the way for the Tennessee court to recognize Mississippi's jurisdiction under the Full Faith and Credit Clause of our United States Constitution, and allow me to travel to Tennessee and get my uncle BACK home, where he's always wanted to be. (He's under hospice care in Tennessee right now, and that isn't good, but . . whatever it takes, I intend to bring him home.)
And, by the way, if any of you EVER need a fine, fine a**-kicking litigator, let me know by private mail.

Wish Zorro would step in here, but the Lord won't give you a mountain you can't climb if you look to Him for deliverence. You believe that and remember it, sweet. I have added you and your family to my prayer list. God will bless.

In my opinion, this thread gives myhattiesburg a much needed amen. I haven't visited this site in a while, but now that I've seen all of these posts I'm eager to come back and check out myhattiesburg. Great addition!

Sue, I will keep that in my prayers.
An update on 2 of my prayer requests:
1. My little cousin Erin, 7 yrs. old and legally blind had a kidney transplant and is still in I.c.u. and will be in hospital for 30 days. She has an appetite and this is a critical time. Something about an immune system being down. Her mom, Kim is staying in Ronald McDonald house nest door and coming over around 5 every morning to stay with Erin.
2. My uncle Bill had prostate surgery Monday morning and we're waiting to see if all cancer was removed. He was given a morphine shot and finnagan(//????) and he had an allergic reaction and his heart stopped from finnagan for nausea. Fortunately the hospital gave him an antidote shot. He is at home and recuperating.
Another request-----The lady who does my taxes has a daughter, Cindy Marshall in Prentiss, who had 1 round of treatments for leukemia.
Her dr. here, Dr. Smith is referring her to Dr. Files in Jackson to discuss her options Monday. Dr. Smith said Dr. Files is an expert with leukemia. So pray for Cindy and her husband and Cindy's family.Cindy is maybe in her mid 40's.
Thank you and I find this thread a comfort.

What you said about the making the sign of a cross is something similar to what I was going to say. I got in the habit when I was really little that whenever I heard sirens or saw any vehicle with flashing lights or anything related to that to say a quick little prayer, just asking for the safety of those in need and those on call going to help. Often people forget of the danger the policemen and women and firefighters and rescue team put themselves in to do their daily job...

This is not an urgent crisis prayer request, but as said before by many, that prayer is not only for the huge things, it is for the small things as well... We are not only to call on God when things get hard, but also when things are going just right, when we are most comfortable, we should acknowledge Him for getting us there to that place in our lives.
Anyways, my request is that I am about to move to hattiesburg with my new husband. We got married 9.2.06 and are only 21 and 22 years old. We have been living in Vicksburg and have established some sort of security here with our jobs and my family being right here too. But I've got to continue my education at Southern and finish my degree and so we've got to move. It's scary, just when we get a little settled in here, getting some sort of hold on our finances, we get to move and start all over. I am worried about finding jobs. That is the only thing that has not fallen into place. We both got accepted, which was great, I got approved for a loan and that's good and he's in the guard so his tuition is paid for so that's good. Things just kept slowly falling into place, we got approved for the apartment we wanted, and got told that we could move in on July 15. So EVERYTHING has fallen right in to where it's supposed to be, except jobs. It's hard to apply for jobs when you aren't in the city you are trying to get a job in. I've looked at hattiesburgamerican.com and made calls and I think I have something lined up, but I"m not sure. Just keep our situation in your prayers. It's not that I doubt that God won't allow us to find jobs, it is just that I'm impatient and I want to know that we'll be ok. That we won't fall flat on our faces and not be able to handle our finances. It's a scary thing moving away from where you grew up and starting all over.

When I have my scanner on and something sounds bigger than a tag being ran, I automatically turn to my rosary or picture of Jesus and ask God to protect the officers-even if it is an officer I don't particularlly care for. God is awesome at answering my prayers.

I went through the same thing years ago and came out just fine. Have faith-there are jobs around and you may have to start with one you don't really care for-but this is only natural. As you become settled in here you will meet new people and the jobs will begin to open up. Have FAITH. I will say a prayer for y'all too.

Please pray for my friend.
She is suffering terribly because of a stupid misjudgement. She is paying a HUGE price for a misstep.
*Please pray for her strength to face what is ahead.
*Please pray for her continued and unwaivering faith in our Lord.
*Please pray for mercy as she is suffering mentally and physically.
*Please pray for her new husband as he faces time alone.
*Please pray for her family as they must live without her humor, love, and friendship.
Please pray that something good comes from something terrible for this young lady.

I'm looking for anything that will hire me. Really, I've worked with kids in child care and babysitting (have references too for both of those) I"ve worked in an auto paint center, delivering supplies to the dealerships and mixing car paint and stocking shelves, I've worked for the past over 4 years in this office at the Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District. I'm really good in all office programs, like word, excel, etc. Powerpoint too. Filing, answering phones, faxing, copying, scanning maps, anything in an office, i can do it pretty much. If there is anything that you can think of please let me know!!! I really appreciate it!!

When I was in college I worked at Early Encounters Daycare/Preschool. It's part of Parkway Heights UMC. Ask for Becky Miller or Sabrina. They like to hire edu. majors. The First Bank is hiring a full-time teller. Big Buck Sports is opening a new store. I'm not sure if they are hiring right now, but it wouldn't hurt to give them a call. I also worked there in college. Lewis Swartz is one of the managers. He's a great guy. I hope this helps. You may also want to get on USM's career site. They have job listings that are geared towards students. Good luck!

I have several friends that are in various countries around the world... 3 in India... 1 in Peru I think, and our church is taking around 25 ppl to China in a few weeks for the 2nd summer in a row. They made some very strong bonds with the Chinese ppl last summer and will be headed back. Pray that they stay safe, and because of the persecution of Christians they won't get thrown in prison. We've heard it's a lot less rough over there since the Olympics are going to be held over there or something, but still it's pretty rough. Keep these students in your prayers and other college summer missionaries...

Good luck Sue. Hope it ends well for you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Last Thursday was a legal dreamette, a trailer for the Big Movie to come, I guess. The Crazy Man Lawyer for the opposition stood before the bench and rattled off a laundry list of motions and objections and by the time he finished shifting from foot to foot, the judge's head was cocked to the left, his mouth slightly ajar. My BEST Lawyer In The Whole Wide World was sitting by me at the counsel table, muttering something about insane people and when the judge finally looked our way and said, "Well?", my wonderful lawyer stood and said, "We're looking into the face of evil, Your Honor . . " and then, I just sorta drifted off - into some other, altered state.
Bottom line - brief due, submitted the next day, and this afternoon when I answered the phone, a pleasant male voice was on the other end, asking, "Hey, whatcha doing?" Mind you, my mind was far away from courtrooms and trying to ponder judicial acts. "I'm just'a piddlin' around," I said cheerfully, "And, what are YOU doin'?" (I didn't recognize his voice, you see.)
He was drafting the judge's order. "We won," he said.
Time is ticking away, but at least some of it isn't ticking quite so fast. Soon, I pray. Soon. I'll have my uncle back where he belongs.
Ya'll are right-on-time.
