The story of how one scientist balances science with his belief in God.

I've never had a problem holding a scientific fact in one hand, and a point of faith in the other & believing whole heartedly in both.
Some people just don't get it ......or they just like to argue & feel superior.

I agree fiddy-8.
(Also kinda like Wynn has never had a problem holding a chocolate covered donut in one hand and 5 donut holes smashed onto his fingertips on the other hand, ready to wholeheartedly eat them all.) :)

I bought The Language of God (http://www.amazon.com/Language-God-Scientist-Presents-Evidence/dp/0743286391) for a good friend of mine...who happens to be a seventh grade science teacher. Haven't had a chance yet to talk to her about whether she's had a chance to read it (she's the 39 year old mom of a 1 1/2 year old in addition to being a superb teacher).

Kindly note who he read. ;)
Another book just out is Creation as Science: A Testable Model Approach to End the Creation/Evolution Wars by Harold Ross, "a minister with a PhD in astronomy." I just saw a brief review of this today in the new issue of Christianity Today, which comments that Ross is "adept at reclaiming the theological implications of accepted scientific theories . . . In addition, he chides certain Christians who engage in evolution-bashing without offering 'a definitive explanation or evidential defense of their own beliefs about life's origin and history.'" Ultimately, the CT reviewer is somewhat disappointed with this book, but says that it "opens the door for meaningful dialogue between proponents of creationism, evolution, and Intelligent Design."
I wish I had time to read as much as I want to read. Both of these sound fascinating.

Hi Hermione -
Well, I was open-minded enough to attend a secular college (BA) & university (masters) where I knew macroevolution would be taught as a fact to the exclusion of The Alternative. However, through those 6 years I never heard a single fact for macroevolution - even after taking a 500-level course entitled 'evolution'.
If I were a betting man I'd say Harold Ross does not take Genesis 1-11 literally and he believes the Earth to be "billions of years old".
I gently bash evolutionism because of the damage it is doing both within & without the Body of Christ. It needs to be frequestly exposed for what it is - a pseudoscience. A place to start reading about the scientific failure of darwinism is David Berlinski's piece in Commentary magazine (Sept., 1996 - I think). M. Denton's 1985 book is great as well as Behe's 2 books.
All the Best!

How many million years did the earth exist before the fall from grace in the Garden of Eden? It seems easy to reconcile the age of the earth issue.

Scotz, this thread is almost a year old.
And I try not to get into these discussions any more.

I consider the earth to be billions of years old and take Genesis literally. I believe that "In the beginning..." was around 4.7 billions of years ago. But then Lucifer sinned and was cast down and "the earth was without form and void". I'm not sure how long ago that was. But I believe when God said "Let there be light", it was 6,000 years ago....plus or minus. I don't believe God created the earth 6,000 years ago. I believe that the earth was in ruin and God restored it and placed man on earth then and the plants and animals we have now.
There are a lot of examples of micro evolution, but can't seem to find any facts to support macro evolution.

I've heard very elaborate stories of Lucifer being thrown from heaven. Where are the scriptures that tell this story? To have it told, it should last a good 1/2 book.

Religion and Science are not compatible as a whole.
Religion is a matter of faith, science is a matter of fact.
