Hi everybody! I just happened across this website and I sure am glad I did. I am a former Mississippian (born and raised in the Laurel/Hattiesburg area) and lived in the city of Hattiesburg in the 80's when I went to college at USM. I LOVED Hattiesburg and still consider it my home in my heart. I have so many memories of the years I lived there and have never felt at home anywhere as much as I did in Hattiesburg. I live in Atlanta, Ga. now but still sometimes dream of moving back to Hattiesburg and living in the town I loved best. I know that a lot has changed (and evidently not in a GOOD way) in the Hattiesburg area and this greatly concerns me and does hinder me from making the move back. Anyway I am still debating it and we shall see. For now I will probably be making a lot of posts reminiscing about all the good times I used to have in Hattiesburg "Back in the day"! I also will try to get more up to speed on what's going on today. Looking forward to meeting to you all!

Thanks for the welcome, everyone! I'm looking forward to being able to keep in touch with Hattiesburg folks on this site. I still do think that Hattiesburg is a good place just not perfect but no place IS, right? Living in ATLANTA I know that's for sure! Every place has it's good points as well as not so good. I often do think of the slow-paced life I used to have there back in the days when the Cloverleaf mall was where the local teens and young people used to cruise around and the big club in town was "Bonnie and Clydes". Those were the days! I would like to talk about the fun days in Hattiesburg but don't know the correct forum to post it under. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You could start a thread in the Off-Topic Forum, and call it something like "Blasts from the Past: Fun Days in Hattiesburg."
I suspect there are a number of us who could contribute to a discussion of Bonnie and Clyde's. :)

I live in Douglasville, the western suburbs of Atlanta. I've never felt "At home" here but it's ok. It's been a few years since I visited Mississippi and the pine belt area (it was before Katrina hit) and I find myself thinking about Hattiesburg more and more. I am making plans to come down for a visit probably in late May and maybe check out some houses I'm looking at online. I have some stories to tell about my Hattiesburg times and I will get to them starting on Monday or Tuesday. I work 32 hours over the weekend so I am just popping in here before I head out to work in a few minutes. Hope everybody is having a great weekend and HAPPY EASTER!
