In a thread on the main board, it was mentioned that a certain local minister is being persecuted by the folks here on MH. Well, it got me to thinking back to my history of religion class at Jones. We talked about how the 12 Apostles of Christ died. I had forgotten many of them so I looked it back up.

Simon surnamed Peter - Crucified upside down in Rome

James the son of Zebedee - He was beheaded by Herod Agrippa I

John - lived longer than any of the other Apostles, he died on the Isle of Patmos where he had been banished.

Andrew - He is reported to have been crucified at Patrae in Achaia

Philip: Was crucified at Hierapolis

Matthew: Died a martyr in Africa (probably beheaded)

Thomas - Was run through with a lance while preaching in India

James Alpheus - Was thrown down from the temple by the scribes and Pharisees; he was then stoned, and his brains dashed out with a fuller’s club.

Simon the Canaanite - Was crucified in Persia

Bartholomew - Was beaten, crucified, then beheaded

Interesting, King Maker... I know that I have read them all before, but had forgotten them... I know that I take the scriptures for granted way too often and forget the sacrifices that were made so that we might have them today...

What about Judas?

That's in the New Testament. He gave back the thirty pieces of silver and then hanged himself. Our sermon on Palm Sunday was about the difference between Judas' actions -- remorse which only leads to despair -- and Paul's -- repentence which leads to healing and new life.

I thought he fell over in a field and his guts spilled out.

I thought he fell over in a field and his guts spilled out.
He hanged himself & when he hit the end of the rope, his innards popped out. These things are stated separately in different gospels. Some confusion about his manner of death results from this.
