I'm not a professional or compulsive (not yet) gambler, but I moved to the Coast about a year ago, so I frequent the gaming establishments much more than I have in years past. (There's not much else to do.)
Just wanted to start a thread for anybody to offer any tips and/or stratagies they have used in the past on the blackjack table or any other game. Also, perhaps some of you more seasoned players can help us amatuers.
I have a question to start it off:
What pair of cards do you split and why? I've asked several people this question, and I have gotten different answers. My most trusted gambling friend says he only splits 8's, but I still don't totally understand why.
(BTW, I'm not interested in anyone's spiritual or moral views on gambling on this thread. Start a thread on the Religion/Spirituality area for that, if you want.)

I will split 8's everytime. Sometimes it works to split crappy 6's or 7's as you can possibly do something with it if you get a 10 or 11. Of course, several times this has blown up in my face with a split, 2 double downs and the dealer drawing out a 21. It's a gamble.:) (OGSF)

Won about 125 at the Beau tonight. Split on some 3's and had some good results (21 and 18).

I don't get this question. Did I piss somebody off?

not me, but i was wondering if u might have ticked some1 off sitting at ur table during some of your splits. i just know that sometimes if some1 is only playing for themself at a table and makes some unusual plays, some people will get ticked and leave. but now that i think about it, i was probably wrong to even say anything, so -- never mind. i apologize if u felt i was attacking u. :-D

I didn't think you were attacking me. I just didn't understand the question. As I said, I'm an amatuer player, and I try not to do anything stupid to hurt the rest of the table. I didn't think splitting 3's was a silly move, though I may be wrong.
The dealers at the Beau are usually pretty good about letting you know when u should or shouldn't do something (especially at the low dollar tables I play). I saw a couple of people other than myself split 3's and didn't think it made any less sense than splitting 8's.
That's why I started this thread. If I'm doing something wrong or inconsiderate at the table, let me know.

I like watching people lose tons of money at these games... I'm sitting there with my short stack of $1 or $5 chips, and they're throwing $100's around like they have a printing press in their trunk... where do these people get this money they gamble away?

Good question...I lost $100 one night, and I felt like I lost my house and truck! I watched a couple one night, at the IP, put stacks of $100 bills in the big money slots. They had 4 or 5 machines going at once.
I like to play, but once I get down $50 or so, I start to feel sick.
If I'm doing well and feeling good, I'll put 20 or 25 down on a few hands of black jack, but I usually just stick to the minimum bet until (if) I get rollin.

On the cruise, I played Carribean Stud Poker... man, that game was FUN!!! It was a $5 table, but to play each hand all the way out cost $15 a hand... I was up for a while there, but played it all back and lost my buy in...
I usually like playing roulette... just because I like the whole psychic aspect to the game... 'I foresee myself losing my money' LOL!!!

I love how people try to tell me about how the house has a bigger advantage in this game and the house has less of an advantage in that game.
I'm pretty sure they make their money off all of us at all games. Hence, the free drinks and the SuperSonic Buffets for $10.99.
Eric I envy you living on the coast your drive is shorter.
There is nothing like after you play the Hoover-Oreck coin vacuum game and you walk out of the Casino with lint balls and rabbit ears for pockets. Then on the drive back to <ST1:CITY w:st="[/IMG]Hattiesburg</st1:City"> you get to listen to little Mr. Conscience sitting on your shoulder telling you what a dumb s_ _ t you’ve been thinking you could win more after a small win early in the night. That is the longest drive in history. On the good side it will reduce or stop your return visits. The buffets are worth the drive by themselves.

the ones that get me are the ones that split face cards when the dealer has a 6 showing. I WILL get up and leave:)

Eric,
I thanked MS QUEEN also. I thought it was funny. Before Hubby and I had a ton of kids, that is what we did for entertainment. (before they sucked us dry of all spending money!)
Anyway, I have seen tons of people get up and leave from tables when they perceived someone as making a poor decision. However, those same people have "followed the rules" and given the dealer the low card he/she needed to make the 21 and kill everyone.
Heck, some people got up and left once when a phone rang and my husband tried to answer a pack of cigerettes!:smt118

I gotcha Pink. I just thought MSQUEEN was implying that I made a "poor decision" splitting 3's. I was just confused. That was my only split of the night, and I don't split face cards or anything silly like that. Also, I must admit that I'm not good enough yet to figure out how in the world somebody else screws me at the table unless it is the guy/gal sitting to my right or the dealer. Maybe I should be more alert so I can get snippy with more people.:)
I get a kick out of "serious" gamblers sitting at the 5 and 10 dollar tables with silly 'ol me. You'd think such experts would be playing up a little.

The buffet up here (at Ceasers Indiana) is great, too.
Let it Ride is awesome. This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let_It_Ride) is how you play it.

Yeah, I played this one night at Boomtown, with a friend of mine. He just called it "3-Card", but it sounds like the same thing.
