I am really excited about this. I remember when Barbaro was hurt last year. I am even more excited about attending the Derby. I am told it is the fastest two minutes ever.

I hope you have a good seat. We were in the infield once and other than hundreds of screaming, sweaty bodies and a flash of brown that must have been the horses whizzing by, I didn't see much and had to drown my sorrow in mint juleps :-D

Well, I will be covering the Derby for the newspaper and I won't have an "official" seat but i am scheduled to be near the finish line to get reaction quotes.

I was quite surprised by all of the hats. I had no idea!

Are you working for the Louisville Courier?
Yes, the hats are something else, aren't they? Very reminiscent of Ascot. We always had our private Derby parties with homemade hat creations, a lot of fun.

I like Kentucky in general :)
Have you been to Lexington and the horsefarms yet? We spent 2 tours in Ft. Knox, in the early 90s and from 2002-2004 and I really enjoyed "Kentuckiana". For many, it is too quiet and rural but I like it like that.

I've been to Frankfort to cover a state board of education meeting, but I have not been to Lexington yet. It looks like I may get there the second week of May to particpate in a governor's forum with an education focus group.

I am thinking about signing up my 5-year-old for horse-riding lessons, though. There is this farm down from my house that gives lessons. (We live in Louisville, but in the far Northeast corner of Jefferson County).

Virgo, I am so jealous... Attending the Kentucky Derby has been a life long dream of mine... When I was home last time, I was able to work with a few race horses... As you know, horses are my loves and I cried when I heard about Barbaro... The whole story is just heart breaking to me... I don't think that they should be allowed to race horses until they are at least three or four years old so that there bones have a chance to fully develop and strengthen... Please take pictures if you can... The horses are just simply amazing! Good luck and have fun with it!!!

Anytime you're ready, let me know... Late June to Early August is the best time for summer weather... (60's usually & 70's rarely)... By mid-August the trees are starting to turn and we will start getting frost...
