I say YEAH!! and I think others Comp's. should follow their lead. What do you think? Although I installed, than four hours later uninstalled Ubuntu I would love to give it a go again. It was not Ubuntu but me. I'm just not educated enough to get it running properly.

Dell Breaks Rank

Dell's decision to ship Ubuntu Linux on some PCs, at first glance, looks like a radical break from longstanding partner Microsoft. But typically staid Dell has broken rank before, when business needs or customers demand it.

Dell and Microsoft would seem like two peas in a pod or two sides to a coin, for which destinies are intertwined. Even when other OEMs openly and actively courted non-Windows operating systems, Dell loyally stayed with Windows.

But Dell's loyalty was more about shrewd business maneuvering than any love for Microsoft. True to its sell-direct philosophy, Dell's first love—perhaps other than shareholders—is the customer. Microsoft rewarded Dell's loyalty with pricing and discounts the OEM passed onto customers and also used to competitive advantage.

I simply wish that the OS became an accessory, like other software. If I want a PC with no operating system installed so I can save $100, then let me have it. Problem is, MS probably comes close to giving their OS away anyway, just so it will be on every computer in existence.

Aaron you can get one built that way. If you want to choose which OS to install, just call Majestic Computers in Oak Grove they built mine 4 years ago and I am looking to get a new one....soon...well...maybe. Mine still runs fine only *one* software that doesn't! Dang U "Roxio Creator 9.0" :( if it wasn't for that I would be happy happy happy with my now old PC!

I really don't want to learn a new OS or change from my fav software!!!

Chow!

Yeah, I know you can, but I'm talking about it becoming mainstream to do that.

I'm not really sure why MS gets a bad rap. I have a couple of systems using Unix and one that runs OS400, and of the 3, MS is the easiest to use.

but I would really like a machine that comes raw, with a virgin hard drive.

C: format

YOU need a boot disk-

when at the a: prompt, ya type

(A:\>) format c: /s /u

copies the system and an unconditional format

or, if ya got a hard disk that needs to be formatted, you can use the /q switch also- you won't sit there for 45 days trying to format it-

we used to use drivecopy with our systems that we built- preloaded with win98 (that's a long time ago)--just when you booted up it went into sytem builder mode- the user had to enter the windows serial number-

such the good old days-
