NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- If the bids are real - and the eBayMotors.com auction was stopped once for fake bidding - a modified 1969 Dodge Charger, painted to look like the General Lee from the TV Show "The Dukes of Hazzard," nearly became the most expensive car ever auctioned.
The auction closed at $9,900,500 at 1:00 pm Friday. That puts it just $1.1 million away from the $11 million paid for a 1931 Bugatti Type 41 Royale Sports Coupe sold by the auction house Christie's in 1987. To date, that is the highest price ever paid for a car at auction, according to Christie's.

I heard that this morning on tv. I know the General Lee is cool, but who would pay that much for it? It's not that cool!

Yeah, I heard Rick & Bubba talking to John Schneider about it on the radio Friday morning. He said when he first listed it, bids went up to around 8 million pretty quickly so someone from Ebay contacted him and said they were thinking it was fake bids. They cleared bids and knocked it back down to 2 mil, and told him they were changing things which would make it very hard for people to bid on it, to prevent false bids.

Schneider also has the truck he used during his Collier & Co. Hot Pursuit Tour for sale. It's only $39,500. LOL! It's on his website (http://www.collierandcomovie.com/).
