There's something about this time of year that makes me very homesick for my hometown of Long Beach, MS. I thought this might be a good place for everyone to tell where they are from and share some of the things they enjoy about their hometown.

Like I said, I think that maybe it's the time of year, but there's something about driving up and down the beach late in the afternoon that is good for the soul! That's what I miss the most!

Pendleton, OR. Lots of good fishing. Late summers were the best.....I drove a combine during harvest, which was fun (at least for a kid), and we always got out of school for the Pendleton Round-Up (a rodeo) every year.

I'm originally from Nesbit, MS. Some of you probably know where that is. For the rest of you, it's in DeSoto County in the northwest corner of the state. About 60 miles NW of Oxford, and 10-15 miles S of Memphis. Southaven, Olive Branch, and Hernando might be towns that would ring a bell.

Anyway, when I was a kid the area I lived in was relatively rural. Now it's not. I can easily get lost in Southaven or Olive Branch now, because nothing looks the same and all the landmarks I remember are either gone or impossible to spot because of all the new stuff.

The thing I miss the most about Nesbit is seeing places and people who remind me of where I came from. I love it down here, but I still feel like I'll never be from here because most of my fond memories are of there.

Memphis TN. I don't miss it the way it is now, though. Probably I really miss family members and Grandmama's house. Summer with the big window fan running, all those good dinners. Coke floats. Watermelon.

Perry, the county that is....I've lived here for most of my life I suppose. I did leave for a few years to attend college. But, I've been blessed with a job that allows me to live anywhere in the country, and I've made the choice that there are a lot of nice places to visit, things to see and all that. But, in the end, strip away the suit, fancy briefcase, and financial mumbo jumbo that I'm always talking and I'm still just a country boy, I wouldn't really fit in anywhere else.

Home, sweet home for me is Hattiesburg. This was the third state, fourth town I lived in; moved here when I was in the 6th grade, and lived here until I got married at 23. So this good ol' town is where I did most of my growing up. I know it's not the same town it was 25 years ago, but it's still a great place!

Hey that's where I'm from!! :) I love driving up and down the beach in LB and Pass Christian. When I used to get sad or just feel like driving late at night, I'd jump in the car and cruise down 90. I like it here, but I'm homesick sometimes...I love living by the water! I was in Long Beach and Pass Christian today...home and then a bridal shower.

I was born in Lafayette....lived in Slidell for a few years and then went to Long Beach for the rest...I went to JCJC and lived in the dorms from 01-03....I'm here in Hburg for a short time. :)

Born in downtown Columbia - lived in Glendale, LA (lower Alabama - Mobile), Hattiesburg, Oak Grove - but now firmly entrenched in the Columbia vicinity. Motto of my hometown growing up was: "Big enough to serve you, small enough to know you". I've always wanted to live here because of the proximity to all the things I love to do and the ease of getting to the larger communities and cities near. Heck, twenty three minutes and I'm in H'bg with everything (almost) one could desire for eats and shopping. Hmmm, that's quicker than driving cross town in the Hub City now at most hours.....................

I don't have a home. I call southwest Mo and Reno "home" by force of habit (I grew up in those places and there are family and friends there) but neither one of those places feel like "home". Reno did for awhile...I was sad when I left it, missed it when I was gone, and ws happy to be back to it when I returned, but strangely, when I actually bought my home, that feeling went away.

I don't know if that's because we did a lot of moving when I was a kid or if my Sner's sense of rootlessness has rubbed off (for her, wherever she is located is "home"...when she lived in MO, that was home. When she lived in Germany, that was home. Same for SC. Same for PA. Same for NV). I've done a bit of writing about the search for a home, but haven't come to any firm conclusions about it yet.

I have no idea where home is for me :(
I was born and raised in Germany and still love going back to visit but I have been away for 15 years now and a lot has changed. I have lived in 4 places in Germany, one in England and 6 in the USA but never long enough to really feel at home anywhere. When I acquired US citizenship, I thought I would feel a sense of inner peace and belonging but sadly this has not happened. I have resigned myself to the fact that I am stuck between two cultures which, in itself, is not necessarily a bad thing, but it does complicate life sometimes.

I was born in Milwaukee, lived there for 18 years until I moved to Hattiesburg in 1997 to go to college when I was 18 and a half. Lived in Hattiesburg until 2004 when i transferred jobs to Alabama and now, as you all know, I am living in Louisville.

Althought Milwaukee is my hometown (and I love it dearly), Hattiesburg is also a home to me. It is where I went to college, had my son, etc. Both cities are so near and dear to my heart. If I had my wish, I could live in Milwaukee for the summers and Hattiesburg for the winters.

I am really loving Louisville. Who knows. Maybe I will have three hometowns :)

I was born in the Burg, lived in Picayune a short time, then in Slidell for a short time. (My dad worked for the Southern RR) so we moved a bit. We came back to Forrest Co., lived in Petal a short time, then moved back to the Burg.

All of my elem./jr./sr. high school years was in the Burg. After I graduated I went to the coast for college. After I met my sweetie down there, we moved to Ft. Benning, Ga. where he was stationed in the Army.

After he got done with his military duty, we moved to PA where he was from. I HATED it there so shortly we moved back to the Burg. Lived here a couple of years then moved to Picayune. After 22 years there we moved back to the Burg...I was in the process of moving to Bay St. Louis then Katrina came along and here we are...here we are gonna stay! I would imagine the next move I make will be to the cemetary on W. 7th st....hope that doesn't happen anytime soon though!

Born in Senatobia MS, Tate County, just south of Memphis, then moved to Memphis (Germantown), grew up mostly in Port Gibson at Chamberlain-Hunt Academy. Then Jackson area for a decade or two, then to the pine belt in '04. Like the Fuzzis, home has often been where ever I lay my head. But I bought a house here, and every time I get to come to the house, it feels more like home. A great deal of that warm fuzzy feeling comes from you folks. I don't have a great deal of time, or actually desire, to get out and meet people; so those of you on here, like it or not, I tend to call a friend. Crazy as it seems, since I could walk right past you in wal-mart, never knowing it. Kudos to Aaron and the rest of you for making MH a home of sorts.

I was born in California, lived in Lake Tahoe and Dallas for a short time... First moved to Alaska when I was two, then to Mississippi when I was six, then back and forth ever since... I have to agree with you Humperdinck, being away from home and moving so much, (28 times in 32 years, not counting different project locations) MH becomes a part of my everyday routine and makes it feel a little more like home wherever I am... Not to mention helping me keep in touch with my "family" on here.... Thanks MH for making me feel "at home"...

Born in Ft. Worth, TX, but don't remember a thing about it. Folks moved back to God's country when I was but a little Otter. Grew up in OG. Still remember when people rode 4 wheelers where La Fiesta, Waffle House and such now stand.

Since graduating from HS 12 years ago I've lived in Poplarville, Jackson, Birmingham, back to Jackson, Hammond,LA, and now reside in Gulfport.

But, to paraphrase the great Alabama song: "My home's in Hattiesburg, no matter where I lay my head."
