Can anyone recommend someone to build a deck? My brother is looking to have one built - 15' or 16' by 20ish...maybe a little longer...someone that's "affordable" but builds good quality??

my contractors Alton Palmer and Donnie Douglas built mine. Ask your contractor I bet he knows someone with deck skills....

I asked my contractor, but my brother didn't like the price, so he's looking around for someone else. ;)

I'll try to find the names of the guys you fixed and added on to the one at my last house. They were awesome. They also showed me where the original contractors had just "toe-nailed" the original one to the side of the house. Wouldn't have been a huge problem but we were up about 15 feet in the back. Would have been a nasty accident if the deck had been full of people. *Proof that Lamar County should have some type of code

I'm not a "dude".

My brother doesn't have the time to build a deck, so he wants to pay someone to do it.

Yeah, what Hawk said, and there are so many variable's nowadays. They've even got decking material where there are NO visible fastners, i.e., you can't see where they nailed the decking down, etc. Then you got your lumber that is part plastic and part wood, doesn't rot, and won't fade, etc. One can spend as much as they want on a deck.

if you honestly think you are gonna get that bottom deck in the "Affordable" (read: i want mexicans to build my deck) range...then youve got another thing coming.

Isn't it supposed to "you've got another THINK coming"? I know the Judas Priest song says "thing" (:headbang: ), but that doesn't make any sense to me.
