View Full Version : A Sweet So Sour: Kool-Aid Dills

What the hell is this shit (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/09/dining/09kool.html)?
...Those pickles were once mere dills. They were once green. Their exteriors remain pebbly, a reminder that long ago they began their lives on a farm, on the ground, as cucumbers.
But they now have an arresting color that combines green and garnet, and a bracing sour-sweet taste that they owe to a long marinade in cherry or tropical fruit or strawberry Kool-Aid...
Sacrilege!!! I was just waxing nostalgic about the GrandSner's heirloom dill pickle recipe last night, lamenting that I have no cucumbers planted to make them myself this coming summer, and I stumble across THIS?

I'm sorry, but that just sounds gross. :smt087 Cherry Pickles? I don't think so. Could be some pregnant woman's dream though.

Actually, it's pretty good, I mean very good. We use to dip our pickles in Kool-Aid all the time when we were kids. You all should definitely try it. Heck, I still do it every now and then.

Give me a dill pickle seasoned with a little bit of heat from a banana pepper, and I'm happier than a girl has a right to be. But kool-aid? :smt078

But Fuzzis, it is so good. Just consider trying it.

Since you're such a nice guy, JB, I'll give it a thought. I'm headed home next weekend, and the route takes me through some of that territory so perhaps I'll search me out one. Still...*shudder*.

Okay, this is what ya'll need to do: Go to the grocery store and get a jar of pickles, I prefer the Rainbow brand. Get you some kool-aid - I prefer tropical punch. Just pour the powdered kool-aid on the pickle and enjoy.

That sounds good, Fuzzis. Try just vinegar, too.

Know who makes Rainbow brand pickles? Mt. Olive. I called on them in NC. Only difference is in the label room. It's a marketing ploy. They send Rainbow to the South, Mt. Olive to the Southeast, and several other brands around the country, all made by Mt. Olive
