I saw that on the news a while back 58Ford... It is really sad, she is only 7 years old. I hope that she is doing better since they have admitted her to the hospital. We need to find an update story...

If it's due to her eating poorly, then that's just unexcuseable. You have to present your children with healthy alternatives or just tell them NO. If I let my son eat whatever he wanted, he'd eat candy and chicken nuggets all day long. He doesn't know that he eats soy chicken nuggets. And instead of candy, we give him fruit. Occasionally, he'll get a piece of candy. I'm determined to not let him grow up like I did.

CB, from what I gathered watching the news story on it, it really is just poor choices from the mother... the child was just given a constant supply of junk food in large quantities... It really is sad... On the other end of the spectrum, and certainly with no offense to you or any other vegans, but there is a vegan couple who was sentenced to life in prison for the death of their daughter. She died from malnutrition, being starved to death. That really is sad in both cases! What are these people thinking???

I don't know... I think the prosecuter in the case said it best:

No matter how many times they want to say, 'We're vegans, we're vegetarians,' that's not the issue in this case," said prosecutor Chuck Boring. "The child died because he was not fed. Period."

If you look in the formula aisle, there's plenty of soy formula out there. One of my employee's son's was born lactose intolerant and had to be raised on soy formula. There are plenty of vegans raising vegan children with no problems. This is just a case of bad parenting and the media, IMO, are fronting the vegan angle instead of the bad parent angle.

If it is soy, then it is not chicken. I would not normally put down the soy products, but considering that Mrs. Cubby is allergic to soy, the constant pushing of them is really not a cool thing to me. I can't find anything quickfrozen that doesn't have soy in it.

I'm not saying its a bad thing... just not good for everybody.

As I said CB, I was not trying to attack vegans... Those people starved the child... Sad... I worked a year and a half as an assistant manager of a natural foods section in a big store. I learned a lot about vegetarian and vegan options and there are some great and very healthy things that I learned about... No offense to vegans, just the other end of the sick spectrum of people who abuse their kids!

You beat me to the punch...I was going to say I can't imagine why the parents were not charged with child abuse....THAT is awful!
