How Dirty is That Bologna? (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/09/dining/09curi.html?em&ex=1178942400&en=69f69e372c952897&ei=5087%0A)

On surfaces that had been contaminated eight hours earlier, slices of bologna and bread left for five seconds took up from 150 to 8,000 bacteria. Left for a full minute, slices collected about 10 times more than that from the tile and carpet, though a lower number from the wood.

Ewwwwwwwwwww.

If it hits my floor, I'm not eating it whether it's five seconds of a full minute! lol

I saw a study last year that said the 5 second rule was true. They kept dropping things on the floor and said overall, 5 seconds wasn't enough time for enough bacteria to collect to be dangerous to your body.

They did a show on that very thing and it is definately NOT true. Myth busted.

And I'm living proof of that. I always thought of it as building up my immune system.

We never miss Mythbusters, IGID. My son loves it.

In that show, didn't they prove that the toilet seat was actually cleaner than the floor?

Must be psychological. I'd pick something up off the floor I just dropped and eat it. But I sure as heck wouldn't eat something I happened to drop on the toilet seat. On second thought, what would I possibly be eating in the bathroom!!? To quote Fuzzis, Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww

I've had plenty a morning that I ate my daily oatmeal while putting on makeup at my bathroom sink/counter. But, I don't drop my spoon anywhere... and I don't spray hairspray while I'm eating.

Well, what you have to consider is how much bacteria can be on an object before your body is overloaded. With some infections, it can take 100,000. With some, 5,000. Having 18,000 bacteria on something is not necessarily a bad thing. As a matter of fact, if it's not enough, it can actually improve your immune system. There are more bacteria on your cell phone than the floor, and you put your mouth up to that all the time.

In that show, didn't they prove that the toilet seat was actually cleaner than the floor?Yeah, but there's a lot less butt juice on the floor.

Did you happen to see the one where they put the toothbrush's in the bathroom and around the house? If you did, you'll be looking to purchase a toothbrush sanitizer.
