That's actually really high. We usually have somewhere around 375-400 members active, and this was when we had 1,800 members.

I see where this is going and I still think that if the Council is expanded that a new election for the two spots should be held.
We're opening a public discussion forum within the next 24 hours for discussion of this topic.

Well, I say you try to stay civil, indicate you want for 8 and 9 to come from the 8th and 9th positions on the poll, and be done with it. This is going to be the first test to see if who you elected to the council really represents the members of My Hattiesburg. The vote results, along with how each council member voted, will be made public after the decision is made.

I don't care one way or the other what happens or when (the whole thing has gotten to be a bit silly, if it ever wasn't); however, I do think there's quite a bit to be said for doing exactly what you said you were going to do.

Prolly, too much MPD and PMS from the Carrie Nationists keep new posters as nervous as a whore in church.
aaron alluded to the fact that he was worried there would be yet another excuse for why more new people weren't posting after the "cleansings", and here it is. Thanks.
Seems the battle between PC and Free Speech continues to divide and conquer, as people's definitions of the above are as contentious as the partitioners who defend them.
It is certainly interesting to watch your flip-flops on PC and Free Speech. If we're talking about someone you care about or like, then it's Free Speech all the way. If we're talking about someone else, then it's PC or hide it behind closed doors. What's that word again? Oh, that's right...H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E.
Beyond that, the forum's humor is in danger of extinction from unwarranted paranoia. It's like an internal strugle between the Pope and Paris Hilton.
That would be your perspective; I'm not at all sure that everyone would agree.

If we wanted 9 council members with the first vote, then we should have been told to vote for 9. By limiting members to 7 you cannot say without a doubt that #8 and #9 would have held those same spots had the community been allowed to vote for 9 instead of 7. I'm afraid those are the facts. Numbers 8 and 9 may have hit their peak within many people's top 7 and, by expanding the vote to 9, two other contenders may have actually passed you.
I don't see the harm in conducting another vote. If you are confident in the first vote, then what is there to fear in a new vote?
I'd rather have people go by their word. And in case you did not see my refer, click here (http://www.myhattiesburg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18392&page=3) and see post #46. If you had a problem with #8 and #9 being added to the list, why didn't you say something then?
I don't fear a new vote. I just don't see the point in it. We've already had two. I understand what you are saying and if it had not been told to us that #8 and #9 would be added whenever there were 2,000 members, than this would be an entirely different story.
I am for doing what is right and for what is fair. I'm sorry, but it's a job hazard for me. It is also what is right.

Excellent points, TheDoc. I agree with you 110%. I voted for 7 council members because that's what we were told to do. Not 8 and not 9. If we are going to have more council members, then we need to vote for more council members. My gosh. We just had a frickin election. Was that a waste of time or what? There were other members who would have gained my 8th and 9th vote, and I am sure the same goes for everyone who voted. I don't see the need for more council members. If there are to be more, then let them be elected just like the original 7 who are still trying to hash out the details. I think we should let them settle in for a while and get things worked out before making anymore changes.
No one below the 7th spot has near a 50 percentage rating.

We've established that this was not clearly communicated during the first election.
You may have established this in your mind, I have not. Frankly, I think this whole issue has become rather silly. And besides, it is now up to the council. It has already been said that there will not be another public vote, but a council vote. And I have presented all the evidence I have to the council members, whether you or anyone else on here thinks it is relevant or not.

Virgo, with all due respect and in my opinion, you want it too bad. That's scarey 'cause you are fairly new.
And what is wrong with wanting something? Are you going to tell me that the others didn't want it? Give me a break. And are you suggesting that since I am fairly new, I shouldn't be on council?
I will not lose ANY sleep over who is on or off the council. I only ask for it to be a fair decision.

Okay people. I checked and there is no full moon right now so why is it necessary to make disparaging comments to the Council? Things have been running smooth, so what's the beef? Either they are doing a bang-up job - or nothing has required their attention (yet). Nominations were made, elections were had, people voted, council was appointed, so what's the deal?

I agree, Amandah. Why do we even need to add more people to the coucil yet? The way I see it, the more people you have in the council, the more variations of opinions you get-lots of bickering going on.:-D

Yep. I work under the adage - If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It. Everything is running along fine and all this is bordering on the asinine. Arguing for arguments sake is just juvenille.

Ahhhh Virgos, ya ain't gonna let me forget that one, will ya? Us old timers are just against changing too fast our sat ways. Maybe we should also have another House of young MH Representatives (all under 25 YOA and less than 500 posts) to pass bills and have them sent to the Council Senate for final vote and passing?
Just how old do you think I am, Hawk? I can assure you, I am not under 25 YOA. I wish I were! And I definately have more than 500 posts.

Well damn, it's hell being in the repressed middle-class, no voice majority, ain't it? Are you an old woman [over 28] :)
I am over 28, Hawk. But I don't consider myself to be that old. And it is hard being in the upper middle class, especially with a son who takes almost all of my money :)
virgo

What's the break line on upper-middle these days, adjusted for inflation and such? All I know is I make too much to collect welfare and not enough to retire. What class is dat? :smt105
The upper middle class I'm in now means I am finally making enough money to survive as a single parent, but now the government takes it all away! I almost wish I were making less like I used to. At least then I got decent money back during tax time!
