I like the Frank Peretti book you mentioned, but I also read the new one he did with Ted Dekker (House, I think). It is extreme even by Peretti terms. Anyone else read that one?

Pilgrim's Progress: John Bunyan (written hundreds of years ago, but still relevant and powerful)

The Problem of Pain: C.S. Lewis (I don't agree with all of Lewis' theology (or non-theology) but this was an interesting read)

The Heart of Christianity and Jesus: A New Vision: Marcus Borg (Borg will/has rubbed a lot of traditional, conservative Christians the wrong way, but I probably wouldn't be in the Church anymore had I not read these two books. Good for Christians who fill Church has lost its relevance.)

Lost in the Cosmos: Walker Percy (May be stretching this calling it a "Christian" book. More in the psychology-sociology realm, but just a good, and sometimes humorous, examination of human behavior and beliefs.

I've just begun reading The Total Money Makeover.

It's excellent. My hubby and I went through his 13-week Financial Peace University and by applying his principles to our lives, and by the Lord's blessings, we became completely debt free last June.

I like the Frank Peretti book you mentioned, but I also read the new one he did with Ted Dekker (House, I think). It is extreme even by Peretti terms. Anyone else read that one?

I bought "House" for a good friend of mine and she said it was really good. I haven't had the opportunity to read it yet, but I would like to. I have his book, 'The Oath', but it is packed up somewhere and I have yet to read it.

Seller, I've heard you talk about being Debt Free. I love Dave Ramsey and I've listened to his show everyday for several years. Last year I even bought the book and enjoyed reading it - I gave a couple of copies to other people.

But, I started practicing what he preaches serious in February and the discipline was tough the first month. But, last month, I had money left over when the month was done! Yeah, Dave Ramsey!!! And, yeah me!!!!! It works when you follow it!

It really does work, and it's amazing to see what you're actually spending money on when you start keeping your written budget. It's nice to actually control your money instead of it controlling you. ;)

I got married a couple of months ago and throughout our engagement we were given several books full of tips on how to make a marriage work.

None of them really said anything that Jeff Clark hadn't already explained and led us toward.

To get to the point...

I'm searching for:

A daily devotional that's easy to understand (we're reading "My Utmost for the Highest" by Chambers right now and after a long day...my husband seems to fight sleep when we read it) To sum it up, I'm looking for a daily devotional for a newly married couple to read together that relates to situations today. Any suggestions?

I've read several books by John Maxwell that I liked, as well as Purpose Driven Life, and a couple of books by Charles Stanley's son Andy Stanley. I also like Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller, and the author Erwin Mcmanus. I consider them all to be contemporary authors, especially Miller and Mcmanus.

I haven't read any of these, but here are some recommendations:

I did a google on "Baptist daily devotional" and came up with this book. It's in the 365 daily readings format that I'm guessing you want.

Moments Together for Couples: Hardback

I went to Lifeway today and got "Starting Your Marriage Right," by Dennis and Barbara Raibey. Thanks to all for your suggestions.

Foxe's Book Of Martyr's by John Foxe.

This is a collection of stories of Christian Martyr's. It's not a thriller, but it opens your mind to what real faith is all about.

I like Facing Your Giants. The book is about the story of King David.
