View Full Version : The IHOP Reformation

Couldn't really decide what thread to put this is in, but it's loosely related to religion and spirituality. I got a kick out of it because I went to Reformed university....And, for those of you who don't read The Onion, this story is fake(i.e. Don't get your panties in a wad!)

http://www.theonion.com/content/news/modern_day_martin_luther_nails_95

P.S.

I'm a huge IHOP HATER, too.....I'm a Waffle House man. Sometimes, in this life, a man has to choose a side and stand on it with conviction. As for me and my house, we shall eat waffles and hashbrowns.

i hate IHOP with a passion

thoug, while i was in florida...i replaced the IHOP/Waffle house conundrum entirely by going to steak n shake

yeah i know its not breakfast...but its equally as greasy...equally as tasty...equally as shady...and still stays up all night.

closest one is in mobile...i take trips regularly...steak n shake and picking up some yuengling...who wants in on the next trip?

I've had a many Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners in the Waffle House. Everyone there knew your name (Hey Cop!) and you knew that there wasn't any spit in your food, cause if you paid attention they're cooking right in front of you.

Then there was the time that an undercover team, who had worked all night in clubs in the Jackson-Metro area, stopped by the waffle place, and the cook offered to sell them pills. Well, after a generous portion of scattered, covered and smothered was finished, the U/C slipped out turned on the recording equipment, then completed the transaction with the cook, who was quickly snatched up and transported to the Rankin County Jail. All fun and games till someone puts an eye out is the way my mother would have put it.

I STAND FIRMLY IN THE CORNER OF THE WAFFLE HOUSE!!!

next to the bathroom, as it seems I've the runny poops of late.

The IHOP I eat at when in Birmingham is somewhat international. All the waitresses are Russian. Whats up with that?

I dig Russian Chics with waffles, and hot syrup. UMMM, let me have some of that old time religion. (goes along with the thread on religion...get it?)

My family and I have had many Christmas dinners in Waffle House.

The thing about Waffle House is, no matter what you've seen in there before, you're always surprised by something in there. I've seen a homeless lady hit a waitress in the face with a jelly packet(Birmingham); I've seen a dude with his hand up his wife/gf's skirt(Destin); I've had discussions about parking lot striping and Silas Marner with the same drunk dude (Hattiesburg); I've seen a guy set his pistol on the counter while digging for change in his pocket (Jackson-Northside Dr.); and I've seen a dude stand up on a stool while wearing a Waffle House hat and singing "Neon Moon" (Hattiesburg--okay that one was me, but it was my birthday).

Those are just the crazy customers. That doesn't even cover the drama behind the counter! That's an entirely different topic.

You just don't get that at IHOP! That why every trip to the Waffle House has the possibility of being a spritual experience. (I needed this last sentence to keep this post in this thread)

WHY haven't you mentioned this super-duper website/news feature before now? It's FANTASTIC. Here's another spiritual (more or less) article from that marvelous site:

http://www.theonion.com/content/news/hallmark_scientists_identify_3_new

Citing in part:

Scientists at Hallmark Cards' Center for the Research and Development of Sentiments announced Monday that they had discovered three previously unknown emotions that can be experienced by human beings and captured on a folded piece of card stock.

. . .

"They will add a whole new level of complexity and nuance to the way we humans relate to one another, and will fill in any gaps left by our 'Thinking of You' and 'Just Because' categories."

The first emotion the project successfully isolated was "requiapathy," the combination of relief and guilt that comes with the sudden realization that you no longer miss a dead loved one.

That discovery quickly led to the uncovering of "seprudity," the feeling of appreciating a coworker's dedication without fully understanding his or her job function, and

"trepatiousness," a synthesis of rage and jealousy, though more muted and often accompanied by a sensation of weighlessness.

"[Trepatiousness] appears to be a very rare emotion, almost exclusively experienced while in a dream state," said principal investigator Dr. Susan McMurrough, a leader in the field of keepsake science best known for her work on the revolutionary "Blank Inside" line of cards. "The only way to activate it during waking hours, in fact, is with a combination of reds, oranges, and drowsy beagles in top hats."

homewood maybe?

Yeah...then that is probably the one off the Lakeshore Dr. exit that I mentioned earlier....I used to live down the road from that one...Strange is an understatement....That whole end of Lakeshore was strange.....Little China and Little India and Little Mexico all rolled into one...

Great Chinese Buffet over there tough.....Mr. Wang's (I'm not making that up...). I believe there are some churches down that way too (Religion/Spirituality Thread)

Scattered,Smothered,covered,chunked,topped,diced.
Or as I like to say,Drag it through the trash sister!

My wife LOVES to tell people the story about me in the Waffle House one night telling the waitress "....and I want hashbrowns scattered, smothered, double covered.....and, oh yeah sweetie, tell Bert to puke up some of that chili on top of them things..."

This was in the wee hours of a Sunday morning when I should have been in bed resting for church. (Religion and Spirituality)

Upon reflection and review, this thread has absolutely no reason to be in the Religion/Spirituality area! I apologize to anyone who has been offended. I really had good intentions, but the discussions of the comparisons between Martin Luther's 99 Theses and this IHOP dude's 95 comment cards just didn't play out like I envisioned. Oh well....the road to hell is paved with good intentions and there's a Waffle House at every exit!

i think theres more religion and spirituality here in the ihop v waffle house debate than any of the bile that was spewed from both sides re: the dean register debacle.

I've found a lot of religion in the Waffle House: "I promise, God, just get me home, and I will NEVER do this again!"

Sadly there was no Waffle House where I grew up, thus I'm partial to IHOP. I've been to Waffle House a couple of times with my friend Kymmie, but it doesn't quite hit the spot like some Chocolate Chip pancakes or some Harvest Grain n' Nut pancakes. :smt102

Waffle House is exploding down here on the Coast...There are 3 Waffle Houses within about a two mile stretch of 49 as you enter Gulfport....There are 3 brand new Waffle Houses within a bout a 6-8 mile stretch of Hwy 90 between Gulfport and Pass Christian....Lots of witnessing going on down here....I guess all these folks that get drunk and lose all their money need an econimical place to eat before they go home and get divorced!

Back about a million years ago a buddy of mine moved to Baltimore. Around Christmas time he wrote that one of the things he missed most was our after closing forays to Waffle house, because they don't have WH in Maryland (go figure......Yankees). So, one night at WH we tried to steal a plate from WH. The waitress caught us, so we told her our story. She came back after a little while & told us to check out by the trash dumpster. There was a paperbag with a full Wh place setting in cluding a menu.
God bless you Ann, you greasy haired bleached blonde where ever you are.

Another thing I love about the Waffle House is the pricing...You can order the same thing, at the same Waffle House, 10 nights in a row, and you will get 10 different prices....This is true...I've actually conducted this experiment with the Patty Melt plate (scattered, smothered, double covered) and a Coke....This led me to the conclusion that price was, perhaps, negotiable at the WH or, at least, some of them....

I gotta say that I don't really get the Waffle House. Maybe I will at a later date, but the absence of chairs makes it a challenge for someone my size to eat there. Now, I guess if you can't comfortably sit in a booth, you probably should stop eating can be said, but a big guy's gotta eat something, sometime!

I've eaten at WH once or twice. I don't get the appeal of the sticky table and 1970's decor. If I'm paying for food, I like a clean, non sticky table to eat on. Maybe I've just had bad experiences the few times I've eaten there, or maybe it's just the WH way... all I know is that the tables are sticky in every one I go in, and I sure hope it's from syrup!
