I just happened to notice that I had 666 thanks this morning. I used to have a car tag that ended with this number, and I would occassionally have fellow Christians state that they would have their car tag changed if they were me. One night during a meteor storm several years ago, a couple of guys and I started counting the meteors and after 20 minutes of counting them, we had counted 222 of them. Well, one of my 2 companions quickly extrapolated that that would equal the rate of 666 of them in an hour, and he freaked out and started screaming that it could be a sign of the end of the world. Let's just say that we were not exactly at the same place theologically, not only with regard to the significance of this number, but on other issues as well.
Here is something regarding this number that may be of interest: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_the_Beast
We all know how devilish you are, Zorro! lol j/k I look at it the same as the number thirteen...it's just a number.

My parents refused the prefix 666 as their telephone number in Mobile. The phone company gave them a 661 instead. :)
Growing up a friend's parent had some cough syrup called 666 and they scratched out the last 6 and wrote 7 on it. :)
Big deal to the old Southern Baptist in me. :-D

No it is MORE than just a NUMBER!! 777 is Gods number.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Zorro-that was too hard for my small brain this morning. I'll try again after more coffee. :) Once I saw the table and the squiggly writing, I had to shut down.

Needless to say, and no surprise to anyone, I LOVE the number 666, just because some people are so superstitious about it.
At work, we once had some items that would ring up 666. A few people reacted. I was once with my grandmother at a store, her total was 666, and the cashier bought a pack of gum on her ticket to change the number.
Personally, I think it's silly. I wish I had a car tag that ended in 666. I wonder if I could get 666 on a car tag? There are plenty of God and Jesus related personalized tags. I wonder if they'd bar me from that one.

CB I am sure you could get that on a tag. They'd probably be glad as no one else wants it. :)

Damn! You beat me to again.
I don't understand why any true believer would react to having 666 on their car tag, cough syrup, or Wal Mart receipt. All that implies is ignorance, not belief. If you have read the Bible verse, it says it is "the number of a man."

"We are told that the ancient Chaldeans, during the time of the Babylonian Empire when the prophetic Book of Daniel was written, had a numerological technique that can be applied to the english alphabet today. In that system, each succeeding letter of the alphabet was equal to 6 more than the one before it. In our system A would equal 6, B would equal 12, etc. as shown in the chart below..."

Well ok, you caught me. My unedumacated country parents and I are ignorant. I suppose they were just trying to do what their Maw and Paw had taught them. I guess I am glad they tried.
They also taught me to not make others feel bad for sharing life experiences. Crazy idea in this day and age.

I simply pointed out that people's attitudes don't make sense based on what the number is actually said to mean. I didn't insult you or try to make you feel bad. You weren't even the only person who offered an example of superstitions. Just the only one who chose to react defensively.
You can be insulted if you choose to take it that way, but don't get offended when I don't play along with any manufactured drama.

Several years ago they gave the school kids in Jones County "cafeteria numbers". They gave my son 666 & I made them change it to 667. When I was still working at the hospital, I had to call in prescriptions to the KMart Phamacy. Their phone number had 666 in it & I told the lady that I was talking to at the time that it really bothered me to have to call that number & that whenever I did, I would cross myself as Catholics do(even though I'm not Catholic. I just don't like that number! It gives me the creeps!:smt118

BTW, KMart must have gotten a lot of complaints, because they changed the number!:)

I believe the numbers 666 is the sum of the name nero ceaser who was a great christian persecutor. I have watched a recent documentary that may scholars are starting to be believe that this is the man the number correlates to in history
