Do you own a Hybrid? Just wondering.

Hybrid Dogs(Designer Dogs)

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/hybriddogs.htm

The word 'Hybrid', when referring to genetics means, the offspring of genetically dissimilar parents or stock, especially the offspring produced by breeding plants or animals of different varieties, species, or races. In general the word means, 'something of mixed origin or composition.' Hybrid dogs, or designer dogs as some call them, are becoming quite popular. Below is a list of the most popular hybrid dogs. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. The Dog Breed Info Center® does not attempt to interpret the temperaments of each individual hybrid mix because the differences in the dogs, even within the same litter can vary greatly. If you do not feel the temperament of one of the purebreds in the mix is suited for your lifestyle, than that hybrid dog is not for you. Do not take a gamble that the puppy or dog will turn out like the other breed in the mix. Choosing a dog simply for it's looks is a foolish way to choose a dog. Read the article on Designer Dogs for more info on these mixed breeds.

Please Note: A hybrid dog is not a BREED, it is a hybrid, which means it is a mix of more than one purebred dog.

Isn't that what we call a mutt?

Isn't that what we call a mutt?

Pretty much, but people are doing it deliberately...and giving the resulting puppies names like Labradoodles.

I have a dog hybrid, although her creation was not by design.

I can't figure out where to put the gas in, though. :)

I heard the life expectancy of these dogs like the labradoodles is a lot shorter than a regular dog. I'd rather have a long lasting dog myself.

I saw a labradoodle @ the pound once. Big and curly! Cute though!

Why do we call the animal shelter the POUND? Anyone know?

Personally, I think it is ridiculous the way people are selling half-breeds for so much money just because they can call them "designer" dogs. That's bull. Anyway you look at it.....if it ain't FULL blooded...it's a mix of something, half-breed, mutt, heintz 57, anything but "designer"!!! I got into it one time with a guy selling a half yorkie and half something else and he got indignent with me for calling it a half-breed instead of designer...he said because Jeff Gordon's wife had one on Oprah and now they are high dollar popular "designer" crap!

I have a "hybrid" at least that's what I call her. The vet and everyone else calls her a mutt. My sisters are into the designer dogs, they both have standard size Cockapoos $300+ (cocker spaniels bred with standard poodles). Both dogs have had a lot of genetic heath problems, i.e. hip pains, acid reflux (I kid you not!), etc. I will always go to the pound for my dogs, its rediculous to pay so much for a dog when there are plenty of perfect puppies at the shelters. And I can't tell you how wonderful my dog had turned out!! And she is much cuter than any fluffy little thing anyway!
