My wife is teaching vacation bible school this year, again. I stayed home with the wee little one cuz she got the ear ache going on. My wife takes our 7 year old with her, all's cool. They get to church and parents are dropping their kids off. One lady drops her daughter off and had alcohol on her breathe, wife says you could smell it a mile away. Well, school goes on and word gets around to watch out for said mom when she picks child up. Well, at the end of the night, daddy shows up to pick the child up, and HE has alcohol on his breath, really strong they said. Looks like I might be going to bible school tonight and dish out some schooling of my own. How would ya'll handle this?

I typically believe those situations are best handled by law enforcement. Whatever "schooling" you "dish out" isn't going to keep the little girl safe the next time her parents decide to drink and drive...and probably isn't going to keep her parents from drinking and driving. :smt102

I don't know, a trip behind the wood shed has cured a lot of ailments......but your right.

I agree. Unfortunately, although we have had no incidents in the past, we have included security on our VBS staff this year to patrol the parking lot. If a situation similar to yours occurs, it will be referred to law enforcement. Its sad that this has to be done, but as fuzzis says, we probably won't keep her parents from drinking and driving. Let us pray that this innocent child will be protected in this matter.

bpitt,
Why don't you see about meeting the drop off person at the car and asking if the church bus can drop her off after school.

Of course the guy and gal need their arse kicked-but that kid needs to come to bible school. :-D If you alienate her parents, she won't be back. I just always feel for those children-they can't help their parents are crappy.

Sorry about your little ones ear.

Yeah, I know, I was just blowing off steam. I would like to kick their butts, though.

The cops just need to be there when they come to pick the child up again.

And as tempting as kicking their butts would be, Pinky is right and you don't want to discourage them from bringing the child to VBS. If this is common in this child's home, then interaction with other adults in a positive setting is probably very needed.

Have the little girl paint a sign that says, "Please stop drinking" and include it in her crafts for them to see.
