Its my all-time favorite pastime. We sold our last boat before moving down here, and I guess I'm glad we did since Katrina wiped out all the places I could have kept it. I'm really looking forward to the marina's getting back into operation. In the mean time I get to live vicariously through others by reading Latitudes & Attitudes, etc.
Are there any other sailing fanatics out there?

I probably will be when I get older. I like to fish too much "rat now". When I still lived in Pascagoula many a moon ago the Yacht Club would have races every Saturday morning. They would race out to a certain channel marker North of Horn and back to the Club. It was pretty neat watchin' it. I'd just sit there and fish on the Seawall and watch the boats stimey for position....There were some heated races back then. Don't know if they still do it now or not. Not that many boats left.

I sailed on that sailboat you can charter on the coast. It used to leave from near the Treasure Bay casino, this was pre-Katrina, not sure if it still exists thought. It was fun.

Now we're talking. Read everything i could about sailing and boats for 1 1/2 years. Bought a 22ft. Catalina trailer sailer this winter. I think this was good choice with lack of slips. Been out 4 times with two overnights the last being Memorial weekend. I'm stoked. Grew up going to Horn Island (powerboat) and all over pascagoula river. Nothing like being able to hear the dolphins blow as they speed along beside you. Waking up to pelicans cruising low in formation over the water. Sunrise. Sunset. Peaceful. I even trolled behind the boat while coming in and caught two spanish mackeral. 8 days in Destin coming up with docking priviledges on canal. 5 knot winds and calm seas tomorrow and rain likely. Oh well, soon......

Yes, they are still there. Last I heard from a guy that is building the pier, they are and I saw them in the paper. Now, they are nearby some BBQ place and are run by city of Biloxi. 2 of them and they are schooners. site http://www.maritimemuseum.org/katrina/index.shtml
Last time I took a sailing lesson was the 1st and last. I like to be a pina colada sailor. I want someone else to do all the navigating, steering and lowering and raising all the sails. Too much work and too technical for me to enjoy the view and atmosphere.
I like to go on those 2 charter boats Sweatmann and Sekul I think. They let you steer them sometimes.
