Are you guys and gals as tough on your tackle as I am? I have to admit, I have probably torn up more stuff by being rough with it than the average angler. I am especially tough on rods. There ain't no tellin' how many rods I have busted. In the past month I know of two. That got me to thinkin' about the quality of rods I buy. Alot of high end tackle looks good but it aint. I have spent 50 bucks on what I thought was a decent rod, but I shoulda looked at it closer because only after a few uses was it missing an eye or the tip got broke.
So I came across a little extra getus (money) the other day and I decided I would go buy me a couple of new casting rods. Well I went up to Mac's in Eastabuchie and took a gander at what he had and came across a Marsh Master casting rod. I got to lookin' at the guides on this sucker....double footed all the way to the tip. Now I have been buying some inferior and some good stuff. Hell, I broke 2 guides off one of my Ugly-Stiks. I am gonna try these Marsh Masters out. It won't take but 3 or 4 trips for em' to prove themselves and at 50 bucks a pop I hope they are worth it. They do look nice though.
The first pic is double footed guide, second is single footed. The double footed ones just hold up better to me.So let me know if you tear up as much stuff as I do.

FishBait-
I love fly-fishing and have to keep 2 rigs all the time. Between the tree limbs and the big bass, I don't keep any tackle very long. Actually, I am getting pretty good at slinging a fly on Black Creek to where it will float in the current to the spot I want instead of trying to cast right on top of the spot I am aiming at. That saves a lot of flies and taper line.
Tore up an ugly stick in my pond last week on a huge bass, but it was my own fault- I hooked a fingerling bass on a watermelon lizard and saw a huge bass chasing it and let it hit it- tore the last two quides off the ugly stick. Lost the fish and ended up knee deep in the pond myself-
My dad has a couple of marsh masters and prefers an ugly stick.

Some of my larger rods are ugly sticks. The one I tore up is an ugly stik lite. The only draw-back to the U/S are you sacrifice sensitivy for toughness. I guess all that goes back to matching the right tackle for the right fishin' application. As in sometimes when redfishin' you need a pretty stout rod with heavy line in muddy water, but when it's clear you may need to downsize to catch the more wary of them critters.
I hope I didn't waste my money, but any money spent on fishin' ain't wasted to me. It just teaches me another lesson.
P.S. me and fly rods don't really get along. I can use em' but they piss me off to much.

It's getting harder to find the double footed guides all the way to the tip. I bought a Daiwa rod about two years ago just because of the double footed guides. Caught a bunch of redfish, specks etc. with it and haven't had a lick of trouble. I'm pretty careful with my equipment though.

Have you tried the new line of Pflueger IM-7 Rods? I've had a lot of luck with them. Very much like the All Star's that I like so much with a lot less bite on the back pocket. I have one on my 4000 series spinning reel and love it.

I have got an older Plueger Casting rod. I'll have to check to see exactly what it is. I got it at Cabela's internet Catalog on sale for bout 20 bucks. I don't use it too much though, but now that you mention it, it is pretty well built.

KingMaker,
the casting rod I was talking about is a Plueger Summit. It's a IM8 45 million modulus......I think it's a Walleye rod, very small eyes and super sensitive. It is well built though. 6 ft. and the first 4 guides are double footed, it has 9 guides in all. It's a pretty good bottom fishin', jiggin' sensitive type deal at close range.

I don't think Big Buck.....and that's exactly what it is "BIGBUCK$$$$"
Can compete with Gander Mountain. Old Big Bucks shoulda' been at least halfway fair in their pricing. Hell, 6.99 for a mirro-lure!! NOT!!!:smt118
I could talk/chat for two hours about BB Sports. But I got better things to do. I cooked another flounder tonight.
Back Out.

I tried out my Marsh Masters this weekend. The one I bought for topwaters performed very well. Now the one I bought for jig fishin' is another story. I put both of my calcutta ct50s on em'. Picked up my jig rod and on about the 6th cast I noticed the guides were off center?????? Hmmmm....I twisted the rod butt a little and the whole da*n thing spun around the blank....Some body didn't put enough epoxy on the handle....I might take it back or fix it myself. I don't know yet. If you are goin' to buy one check to see if the handle spins around the blank. Out of all the rods (prolly 150 plus) I have purchased in my lifetime this is only the second one I have had to do this.

So I epoxied the handle back on my Marsh Master. Should be good to go now.
