Of course there are probably broader catagories which could go beyond gardenening. Some title ideas include;

Country Living
Roots
The Good Ole Days
The Homestead

I thought it might be nice to let it cover all things country, from cows, chickens and livestock, to gardening and home remedies, to folklore and true stories from the farm. It could cover all things wholesome and I know would be a good way to keep us old timers out of trouble. :)

Good morning< Hawkeye. I am looking forward to it. Especially some of the old time remedies I have heard my mother and grandmother talk about.

I have no garden since I live in the city. I do raise flowers in pots, started to say pot plants ( now that is a bad thing to say).

I look forward to it.

Hope you get rain. There is something renewing and nourishing, nurturing walking in a garden or even a nursery around greenery-whether it be for visual, fragrance, or good eating.

Not really, Daisy. Many old timers believe we should be able to have one pot plant or two for medicinial purposes. Alo is a good medicine plant.

Yes, I killed my aloe by watering it too much. Need to get some more. Burns and I hear the juice from the stalk is far more potent than the bottled stuff.?????

Speaking of eating Hawkeye, I have been to some fancy dinners where you were served orchids and everyone else ate 'em. Of course, someone said I could drive them to er and tell 'em what happened.

I put mine in my water glass--too pretty.

Also, some of the people have decorated nasturtiums on salads. orange and red.
I didn't eat it either.

Also, does anyone know what plants are poisonous for cats? No, I don't wan to kill them.

I don't think I've ever heard of cats killing themselves by eating certain plants....they are smarter than that.

I had a young son who chewed the leaf of a house plant, called "Dumb Cane" once. Scared the hell out of me. I'm not going to take the time to look up the spelling of "Dumb Cane's" biotanical name but its sounds like Dif-im-bok-ia (I think). It paralyzed his mouth for several hours. Reading the history of the plant was quite informative. It was used on slave ships to keep the slaves from communicating.

Sounds like that might be something to slip to those folks who are smart arses!:-D

Or to some of my relatives during heated political debates where I can't get a word in. Silence is GOLDEN.

Good morning Queen Mother and Fih-Bait and anyone I missed there.

What a scare there Hawk and interesting way to control the slaves back then.

I read Hawk's electic skate tale on Fishing funny stories and I looked up that critter.
Hawk, you know the Greeks used that during childbirth and surgeries for anasthesia and that is where narcotics comes from. The volts on those things is to defend the predators above--you that day. Also the shock goes down for their food. Oops, off-topic , forgive me.

YEA AND I NEED instructions on how to grow it, please.

For those of you that like to keep your goats alive do not feed them azaleas, elephant ears and one more thing. Can't remember.

I know a lady who fed the azaleas she was trimming in her yard and threw them over the fence where her goats were. She called her vet after her goats were foaming at the mouth. Her vet told her to tell her goats bye if she liked 'em cause that killed them.:( She thought goats could eat everything and it not hurt them.

So, do not feed your goats the azaleas, elephant ears and_____?. or it 'll kill 'em.

Oh that's the easy part. Throw 'em in some potting soil and water every few months. :) I think I watered mine about 2 months ago. :smt118 I have tons. Next time I come to H'Burg, I'll get together with you.

So do my potted plants. Made a world of difference. My boyfriend also thanks you 'cause the next day it felt like fall (cool and crispy) until noon.

I need help to how to make this so I can pull it up without having to look up Hawkeye and go to his threads and come upon it.

Any easier way?

Daisy, if you're talking about the NOAA Weather Radar Site I use, just click on this link and then add it to your favorites for quick access.

http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/southmissvly.php

This page gives you the last static radar picture for the Southern Mississippi Valley. I like it because it is from for enough away so that you can see the weather developing all the way from Texas and out in the Gulf, up in TN and over in Bama. Once you get on this page, all you have to do is click on the "Srn Miss Vly-Loop" tab and it will give you time ellapse of how the weather pattern hass moved over the last hour. With a little estimating and practice, you can get pretty good at figuring out if we are going to get bad weather and about when it'll get here.

One final tip; When you first pull this page out of your favorites, always hit the "Refresh" tab to make sure you're getting the latest imagies. Also, when veiwing this page, you can move your cursor to the H'burg area on the map, click, and it will focus in on a tighter shot and more detailed view of our area.

If this was your question, I hope this helps.

Oh, I forgot. Old age is hell. Good Morning good folks! Looks like it might rain. We've been gettin' after midnight showers lately. Got some hail yesterday afternoon though.. I've got to check my car for golf ball pimples this morning. I love it when that happens. Call the insurance company. Get a check. Wait for the sun to pop the pimples back out. I quit trying to be fair and honest with insurance companies long ago.
Hope everybody has a good Monday.

Dollfus, here is part of what I was referring to and it is in this thread.

The electric skate is in another thread about funny fishing and hunting stories.

I had a squash plant magically appear in my front flowerbed. Not sure how it got there, as I planted all plants from grown plants, not seeds. Still, it grew for a while, then I pulled it up and tossed it.

My little fig tree is producing, but only enough to give me a fig or two a day. Not enough to really do anything with, but they're so good right off the tree. My tomatoes are in recovery mode, the older ones are mostly all ripe, and new growth is bushing out from the top with blooms and all.

Folks, there was a fig tree behind my mom's place in Pascagoula. It had prolly been there for all of 25 years I can remember. It was about 14 ft in diameter and prolly 8-10 ft. tall. Many a fig plucked off that sucker too, and stomach ache to go along with it.
Katrina washed my stepdads bronco out from under the carport and it broke it at the base of the trunk. Sucks.

Now, Flowergirl, how you run out of coffee? I keep my larder stocked at all times with 3 big cans in case of emergency or coffee grinders strike. :)

Because I find myself with no time to make it to the grocery store! But, I do now have 3 cans per your instructions! Thanks-
